First, the bad news: a Chicago police officer was killed after being shot at Mercy Hospital Monday afternoon. The suspect, a 32-year-old male who had opened fire near the hospital, was shot and killed.

The good news: another police officer escaped injury when the shooter’s bullet was stopped by the gun in his holster.
