As we’ve observed this week, gun control advocates have reacted to a deadly school shooting in Parkland, Fla., by blaming 1) the NRA, and 2) the AR-15 specifically. If they can’t confiscate all the guns, they at least want the AR-15 banned, no question.
The Washington State Attorney General’s Office did its part for the cause Friday by noting that in Washington, an 18-year-old can walk out of Cabela’s in minutes carrying a brand new AR-15.
Fact: In Washington, an 18-year-old can walk into a Cabela's and walk out minutes later with an AR-15. No enhanced background check, no waiting period. #waleg #SB5444

Well, the tweet says “Fact,” so it must be true, right?
They actually give it to you as a door prize when you walk in. Fully loaded with the safety off, too. https://t.co/0fFgcGBtQn
— Crusty Gobblestein (@NathanWurtzel) February 16, 2018
Whoever wrote the tweet included hashtags for Washington SB 5444, “Concerning enhanced background checks and licensure for assault weapons and large capacity magazines.”
@RobProvince @StephenGutowski Enhanced background check? https://t.co/N0bJhOc5xl

What's an enhanced background check?https://t.co/JtvLujm22u https://t.co/xhx68BM6MZ

Please explain "enhanced background checks" in detail https://t.co/8iL99xgzxc
— Kevin (@kevinpost) February 17, 2018
There’s no such thing as an “enhanced background check”, so, yeah … https://t.co/NRFOyS0Gro

There is no such thing as an "enhanced" background check. Also, I was at the grocery store earlier and was able to buy milk without an enhanced background check. https://t.co/hcaV7DIT3s
— Constitution First (@Liberty_Uno) February 16, 2018
Notice the word “enhanced.” What does that even mean? Of course no one is walking out of Cabela’s with an AR-15 without going through a background check. This is just another politician lying. https://t.co/Nu0Of6VvBN
— Mr. Miller (@JmeMiller1974) February 16, 2018
And define “assault weapon” and “large capacity magazine” while you’re at it.
We’re not the only ones who doubted this “fact.”
How did this person become AG with such a complete lack of knowledge of the law? https://t.co/xs4jRNGPQA
— Chris Loesch (@ChrisLoesch) February 17, 2018
Fact: I live in Washington and this is bullshit. https://t.co/yAAEcVtnV8
— Joshua Lansing (@LansingJoshua) February 17, 2018
Hey, did you know you can trade in your car at Cabela's for a FULLY-ARMED TANK with no enhanced background check? You guys should look into this.

"No enhanced background check" here means "you have to submit to a background check, and if you pass they'll sell you a gun." https://t.co/HctOR8bznw
— NACCtion ❌itch (@theycallmeFogel) February 17, 2018
This is the definition of fake news. Took me almost 5 hours to go through a background check… At Cabela's. https://t.co/mSbbHr1UwV
— Matt (@mbodle_49) February 17, 2018
Either the @AGOWA is a complete lying fool OR someone hacked the twitter account to spread utter BS.
Which one is it? We'll wait https://t.co/JBxtSQDB53

This is a lie. Every gun sold by @Cabelas in the united states like any gun sold by a licensed dealer requires a background check.
Lies like this are why Americans distrust government. https://t.co/Rg23EaxMa6

But they do undergo a background check through NICS. Why are you misrepresenting this? https://t.co/UlFYDoefGi
— Barry Gadbois (@BarryGadbois) February 17, 2018
I GUARANTEE you this is false. You are background checked every single time you buy a gun…
If this is true, it's very very illegal and the store should definitely be shut down… Because that's a violation of Federal law… https://t.co/uAExzH28X6

This is a clear violation of existing federal gun laws. If you have been aware of this and have not take enforcement action, then please let us know when you will be submitting your resignation.#waleg@GovInslee https://t.co/kwwshY9qQo

If Cabelas is selling AR-15s to anyone without a background check they're in violation of federal law. You should probably find someone in law enforcement to look into that. https://t.co/vAXdLEuAIJ
— Josh Jordan (@NumbersMuncher) February 16, 2018
Hey @Cabelas, the AG of Washington is accusing your stores of violating federal law. May want to handle this. https://t.co/voSlcVtJo1
— Senate Popular VotEEE (@EEElverhoy) February 17, 2018
No. I think @Cabelas might have a libel case here. https://t.co/M9r10QWqls
— Hugh Manatee (@Wombat32) February 17, 2018
If I were the CEO of @Cabelas I'd ask my Corporate Council to issue an immediate Cease & Desist Order against the WA AG's Office from waging a social media war out of thin air. Is this even real? @BassProShops https://t.co/93KcFIZcyx

@Cabelas WA Attorney General is insinuating you break Federal Laws? Or is he just using your name to innundate you with hate mail?. Care to comment? https://t.co/RnNKL0r8C0

@FBI Please check this out. Appears the senior law enforcement official in the state of Washington is bragging about their state not following federal laws. He should be checked out. Sounds like a dangerous situation. Either that or he's a liar??? https://t.co/Wi9rebMaEb

— Ran Harpaz (@RanHarpaz) February 17, 2018
@dorimonson That's our AG! Rebel rousing and sensationalizing the truth for those who don't realize that "hours" are made of "minutes," and that "no enhanced" means, yes, a Federal NCIS background check is indeed conducted! …But, from a guy who litigates that "and" means "or"! https://t.co/eRxgrH7dcZ
