You might notice that we’ve included a question mark in the headline to this post and attributed it to Bloomberg Politics for good measure, because this is just crazy if true — and we fear it is.

NEW: Capitol Police investigating why its elite team went to wrong location when gunman fired on baseball practice. https://t.co/eTFjjSjYvC

A spokesperson told Bloomberg that they can’t comment on an ongoing investigation, but sources say that the U.S. Capitol Police department is investigating why an elite unit dispatched to deal with the shooter who had opened fire on a Republican baseball practice was first sent to Rep. Nancy Pelosi’s house several miles away:
Instead of responding directly to the Virginia field where House Majority Whip Steve Scalise and several others were shot, members of the Capitol Police Containment and Emergency Response Team were signaled instead to go to House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi’s house in the Georgetown neighborhood of Washington, several miles away, according to the two people, who asked for anonymity to speak about the sensitive incident.
A few people already are offering up conspiracy theories, but the most likely scenario —simple human error — is disturbing enough.
