Writer hopes Pentagon will follow Ariana Grande's counterterrorism strategy and love more, sing louder

Wednesday’s hot take on the suicide bombing that killed 22 outside of an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester, England is that the Pentagon would do well to heed the singer’s recommendations regarding counterterrorism.

Our hot takeaway is that we’d never, ever let a loved one within a mile of an Ariana Grande concert if she’s in charge of security at the venue.

In The Nation Wednesday, Juan Cole compared the rhetoric of Grande and Defense Secretary James “Mad Dog” Mattis. Not surprisingly, only about 10 percent of the piece was dedicated to Grande’s take on counterterrorism, so precise and effective is her strategy as spelled out alongside her intention to return to Manchester for a benefit concert: come closer together, help each other, love more, sing louder, and live more kindly and generously.

Hidden somewhere in those words might be the instruction to find more jobs for potential ISIS recruits, or to fight global warming and prevent climate refugees from resorting to terrorism. Or, it could just be a bunch of pap.
