Bake news: Child delivers James Comey freshly made cookies after his firing by big orange meanie

You might have heard on the news that President Donald Trump this week fired James Comey from his position as director of the FBI, sparking outrage among liberals who had demanded his firing last November and leading to reports of a coup and pleas for help to the international spy community.

Comey has endured life as an ex-FBI director for less than a week, and the media has managed to paint a detailed picture for the public. The day after a news helicopter tracked Comey’s car from his canceled speaking gig to the airport, an AP photographer spotted him outside his home, not running the FBI.

Wow. Little did Comey (and the rest of the world) know that he’d soon be delivered some chocolate cookies and a note by a 9-year-old neighbor to cheer him up.

WUSA was ON IT.

Piping hot chocolate chip cookies were delivered to former FBI Director James Comey, who was fired by President Donald Trump on Tuesday.

Abby Grace, a 9-year-old neighbor, thought the former FBI director needed something to sweeten up his day, especially after seeing the reporters camped out at the end of his driveway.

“Abby thought that was quite inhospitable,” her mom said.

If that’s true, young Abby Grace thought reporters were being jerks for besieging Comey at his home. That didn’t stop them from spreading the story, though. NPR’s Mara Liasson shared the text she received from her son’s friend’s mom, whose extensive political conversations with her young daughter likely inspired her heroic act.

“We’ve spent a lot of time talking about how kindness and empathy are the most important ways for us to engage [with] people regardless of if we agree with or understand their positions,” she wrote. “In [Director] Comey’s case, Abby said ‘I wanted him to know we respect him for his career of service.'”

Cookies had to be a nice change

Is that powerful, or is that powerful?

We’re old enough to remember when Comey wasn’t such a sympathetic figure.
