Rep. Trey Gowdy says Hillary Clinton wiped her server with, like, way more than a cloth or something

Even the liberal press isn’t happy that Hillary Clinton hasn’t held an actual press conference in nearly nine months, but things didn’t exactly go well for her last August when she stuck around after a campaign event and was asked by Fox News’ Ed Henry if she had wiped her email server.

Clinton played dumb and gave the world the gift of the endlessly quotable line, “Like with a cloth or something?” On Thursday, however, Rep. Trey Gowdy was quite clear that Clinton had used way more than a cloth to wipe her home-brew email server.

Sarah Westwood of the Washington Examiner reports that Gowdy says Clinton used software called BleachBit to scrub her emails to the point “where even God can’t read them.” BleachBit, like similar security software, doesn’t stop at deleting files (which often leaves them intact on the disk but invisible to the user) but rather overwrites the area of the drive during several passes, “shredding” them beyond recovery.

So, while FBI director James Comey might have called Clinton “extremely careless,” somebody was extremely careful to make sure all of those yoga routines were obliterated.

Of course, even smashing a disk drive to pieces won’t help if someone has hacked in and copied the data beforehand.

Not to mention that Clinton’s own tech person has consistently pleaded the Fifth whenever asked to testify about his role in setting up the private Clinton email server.

The creators of BleachBit haven’t missed out on all of the publicity the software is receiving after Gowdy’s TV appearances, adding this note to the bleachbit.org homepage:
