Five injured in mass stabbing in Magdeburg, Germany; Cell phone robbery gone wrong?

After a terrorist killed 85 people in Nice, France in July, ISIS celebrated by circulating posters of Paris in flames and others claiming that an attack on Berlin was coming “soon.” Terrorists haven’t managed an attack of that scale in Germany, but the Germans have suffered smaller-scale attacks outside of Berlin, such as a suicide bombing outside a music festival and an ax attack on a commuter train.

Police haven’t linked terrorism to a mass stabbing Monday in the city of Magdeburg that injured five, but residents of Germany certainly have to be on edge after those previous attacks, and some have their doubts about the attacker’s motive.

Just a “robbery gone bad?”

A 64-year-old woman reportedly suffered cuts to the face. Here’s a rough translation of HLN’s coverage via Google:

The suspect first attempted to steal the mobile phone of a young person. Then he hit a 63-year-old man in the face after he tried in vain to pull him off his bike. Then he grabbed two women and pushed them to the ground.

The motive of the perpetrator is not yet known.

Police used a helicopter to aid in the manhunt, but the suspect is reportedly on the loose.
