Despite harsh conditions, small crop of American flags near DNC stage beginning to multiply

President Barack Obama on Wednesday night praised the diversity of the America he knows: “black, white, Latino, Asian, Native American; young, old; gay, straight; men, women, folks with disabilities, all pledging allegiance, under the same proud flag.”

Fortunately for him, the organizers of the Democratic National Convention had by Day 3 managed to find some flags to place around the Wells Fargo Center, after The Daily Caller made note of the absence of any American flags on the opening day of the convention. Flags were brought on stage for the opening pledge but then moved out of sight for the rest of the day.

Despite the harsh conditions inside the convention, it appears as though American flags are multiplying if not exactly thriving.

Maybe. The Daily Caller reports that the American flags that usually fly over city hall were curiously absent Thursday, though a spokesperson said they were taken down for safety reasons, citing the weather in Philadelphia this week. An unnamed city official, though, said they’d been moved to the DNC stage.

Protesters outside the convention didn’t have any problem finding flags to burn, unfortunately.

The idea that the city loaned the flags to the Democrats seems a little far-fetched, but it didn’t take much pressure from demonstrators to get the city to send a crew with a cherry picker to remove Mississippi’s “racist” flag from its place on Broad Street, after protesters failed to knock it down by throwing things at it.

Was that considered a safety issue too?
