The Democratic National Committee’s party platform committee convened again on Saturday to continue hammering out the official wording that will be presented at this summer’s convention. While there have been reports of more bickering between members of the Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders camps, committee members are agreeing on a number of “unity amendments.”
Successfully added language to #DemPlatform to recognize #transgender discrimination & strengthen #LGBT rights for all Americans

Passing unanimously was an amendment to support and build upon President Obama’s Presidential Memorandum on International Initiatives to Advance the Human Rights of LGBT Persons (the PMIIAHRLGBTP), adopting a foreign policy of “combating efforts by any nation to infringe on LBGT rights.” Either that’s code for bombing ISIS into oblivion, or it looks like President Clinton is going to have to make some calls to her foreign donors.

There was a bit of minor controversy, though, concerning the missing “Q” in LGBTQ. Sorry, queer folk: maybe by 2020 the Democrats will have broadened their narrow view of gender identity.
The only opposition to the LGBT human rights amendment was to add the 'Q'. ???? #DemPlatform

Objection to LGBT language in platform: "This whole document is lacking the 'Q,' for 'queer.'" It will be dealt with technically.

Dealt with technically? Like with Word’s Find & Replace feature or something?

Thank you to the person who proposed for tech review the addition of the "Q" (for queer) to be added to "LGBT" in all language!— JL Andrepont, PhDc (@andrepontj) July 9, 2016
If we're gonna include Q in LGBT, then we better also include IA. #foreignpolicyamendment #DemPlatform @HillaryClinton @BernieSanders

Those probably stand for Intersex and Asexual.

It really should have two Q’s, for Queer and for Questioning. What excuse does President Obama for using LGBT as shorthand for LGBTQQIAAP anyway? Is he afraid it will cut into his golf time?
Since it’s an international initiative, maybe LGBT is as far as common ground can stretch for now. Even next-door neighbor Canada has settled instead on LGBTQ2S, with 2S representing the “two-spirited” among Canada’s indigenous peoples.
