At least one Democrat senator uncomfortable with party's even more abortion-friendly platform

The video of Democrats booing the reinsertion of the words “God” and “Jerusalem” into the party’s platform at the 2012 convention really is something to see (and hear); it took multiple voice votes to get the results the leadership wanted, and even then the idea that it was the will of the majority was difficult to believe.

Four years later, the party is proudly moving ahead with what some are praising as its most progressive platform yet. As Twitchy reported, a draft of the platform calls for a repeal of the Hyde Amendment and unlimited taxpayer funding of elective abortions for Medicaid recipients.

At least one Democratic senator isn’t comfortable with the party taking its “reproductive justice” agenda as far Left as it can.

John McCormack writes in the Weekly Standard that Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.V.) has called it “crazy” to take such as extreme position that will alienate a large number of Democrats:

West Virginia senator Joe Manchin condemned the proposed language in the Democratic platform regarding the Hyde amendment on Wednesday. “That’s crazy,” Manchin told THE WEEKLY STANDARD. “It’s something that I know most of the Democrats in West Virginia and most West Virginians would not agree with. I don’t either.”

McCormack notes that “although Democrats said their goal was to make abortion ‘rare’ in 2000 and 2004, they deleted that word in the 2008 and 2012 platforms.”
