Bob Dole, new kid on Twitter, receives some social media advice from old timers

Bob Dole, 92, joined Twitter Monday, proving that it’s never too late to get on board with social media.

I'm proof that it's never too late to join Twitter. #myfirstTweet

— Senator Bob Dole (@SenatorDole) June 27, 2016

We’re old enough to remember reporters fretting that Dole, at age 72, was too old to be president, but that was back before Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton made senior citizenship cool again.

If he spends much time on the site, Dole might realize by Friday that it’s never too early to quit Twitter, either. Aside from a few obscenities, Dole mostly received flak for supporting Donald Trump in return for his first tweet.

Stop supporting Trump.

Not too late for that, either.

Can your 2nd tweet be a #NeverTrump tweet?!?

— Larry Stuckey (@UncleMax319) June 27, 2016

Watch out for that @realDonaldTrump guy. He's a complete nutcase on and off Twitter.

— Alex Burrola (@alexburrola) June 27, 2016

Why soil your legacy by endorsing Trump?

— Jacob Alperin-Sheriff (@DemocraticLuntz) June 27, 2016

Twitter even lets you join after you've spent ALL your INTEGRITY & CREDIBILITY capital endorsing an ignorant BIGOT for POTUS! @senatordole

I'm proof that it's never too late to jump on the "delete your account" bandwagon!

Fortunately, Dole received some guidance from those who have been around a while.

Protip, Senator: Don't read the comments; they're nasty and the spelling is appalling.

Welcome to the jungle. I apologize in advance. #TeamFollowBack #tcot

— Duffy (@GiantsOfMedia) June 27, 2016

welcome. So you know, when @HillaryClinton tells you 'Delete your account', it's just sour grapes. You don't really need to.

Join a gang, @SenatorDole. The only way to survive in here.https://t.co/Y7hPxqYsId

I'll welcome @SenatorDole as I do all WW2 vets: Thank you for your service to our country.
