President Obama disagrees with Sen. Obama, says SCOTUS nomination is 'beyond politics'

President Obama sat Monday for a Facebook Live interview with Buzzfeed legal editor Chris Geidner, during which he again encouraged the Republican-led Senate to do its job, put politics aside, and vote to confirm his “wicked smart” nominee for the Supreme Court.

Good to know that in filling a lifetime position on the highest court in the land, the president found the perfect choice “for this moment.” That moment, though, was two months ago.

Of course there’s a punchline, and that is where President Obama says that it’s especially important not to politicize SCOTUS nominees due to the craziness of the election year — which sounds like a perfectly sound reason to delay a vote. That excuse worked for Joe Biden, after all.

If Buzzfeed brought up either the “Biden Rule” or Obama’s filibuster of Justice Alito during the interview, it didn’t make their write-up.
