Mayor who waged war on salt, sodas succeeded by mayor who tells citizens where they shouldn't eat

When New York City was freed at last from the nagging of Nanny Bloomberg and his tireless crusade to protect New Yorkers from salt, sugary drinks, and trans fats, power was transferred to Mayor Bill de Blasio, who seemed to be an entirely different animal.

It turns out the two have something in common: champion of the common man de Blasio isn’t hesitating from telling the citizens where not to eat, but not for health reasons. Rather, de Blasio told New York magazine that he would not be patronizing the first Chick-fil-A franchises to open within city limits, and he urged citizens to follow his lead.

In other words, the social justice warrior fighting for a living wage for the working stiff is doing his best to put Chick-fil-A out of business.

“I’m certainly not going to patronize them and I wouldn’t urge any other New Yorker to patronize them. But they do have a legal right,” said de Blasio, who was gracious in acknowledging the restaurant’s legal right to exist even if it displeases him.

Queens councilman Danny Dromm, who is gay — not that we asked or cared, but New York magazine reported anyway — accuses Chick-fil-A of “quietly spreading its message of hate” via donations and “forcing their employees and volunteers to adhere to a policy that prohibits same-sex love.”

We weren’t aware that Chick-fil-A had the power to prohibit same-sex love (except when employees are handling the food, perhaps), but we are reminded of a family-owned bakery that was ordered to pay $135,000 in damages to a lesbian couple they’d “mentally raped” there.

After Bloomberg’s commencement speech at the University of Michigan where he was booed for ripping campus “safe spaces” and now this, we’re starting to miss the guy just a tiny, tiny bit.
