Smooth move: Man who jumped fence near White House was fleeing robbery scene

The White House was placed on lockdown briefly Tuesday afternoon and the North Lawn cleared after a jumper cleared the fence surrounding the Eisenhower Executive Office Building.

The jumper was quickly apprehended by the Secret Service, who report that the man was fleeing from a robbery and thought jumping a fence next to the White House was his ticket to a clean getaway.

WVUE reports that the man “jumped the west fence of the Eisenhower Executive Office Building following a robbery that happened across the street at 17th Street and G Street NW.” the Secret Service says. The man was transported to a hospital for treatment of an injured hand.
