We haven’t taken any joy in covering the ugly split at Breitbart.com, marked by an exodus of some of the site’s most talented writers and some ill-advised sliming of those writers in a piece which has since been taken down. Breitbart is reportedly going the legal route now, escalating an internal memo directing writers to stop tweeting about Michelle Fields to a cease-and-desist order.

@Hadas_Gold That will save their reputation?

Politico reports today that those staffers who jumped ship in support of Fields (including Fields herself) will find cease and desist orders in their mailboxes ordering them to stop talking about the circumstances that led them to resign. Most Breitbart employees, sources say, are on contracts that likely include non-disparagement clauses.
@Hadas_Gold The fall of @BreitbartNews might be the saddest casualty of this election cycle. Of course there's Trump. Maybe 2nd then.

Breitbart employees leaving the ship should talk to an employment lawyer. Non-disparagement clauses are highly disfavored at law.

One person who’s glad to see the letters go out is Donald Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski, whose alleged grabbing of Breitbart reporter Fields led to the mass exodus from the site as well as the filing of a police report.

@CLewandowski_ @politico Perfect. Her attempt to play the victim failed. Perhaps she can go work for #HilLIARY campaign.

@CLewandowski_ Have you apologized yet? I think you owe one to Michelle Fields and another to your supporters.
