Shop 'til you drop: Laquan McDonald protesters hold die-ins at Macy's, Saks in New York City

Christmas is less than two weeks away, and shoppers in New York City can be forgiven for thinking retail is a little slow this year, judging by all the dead bodies on the floor. It’s #PeoplesMonday in the city, and tonight protesters are honoring the memory of Laquan McDonald, who was shot 16 times by a police officer in Chicago more than a year ago.

Dash-cam video of the McDonald shooting was only recently released, however, inspiring marches in Chicago and demands that Mayor Rahm Emanuel resign over the alleged cover-up.

Last Monday, sympathizers in New York shut down a Whole Foods in memory of Jamar Clark, and they are doing their part tonight for McDonald by pretending to be dead in Macy’s and Saks Fifth Avenue.

We’re guessing the woman in the Assata Taught Me shirt, honoring cop-killing fugitive Assata Shakur, didn’t find it on Macy’s clearance rack.
