Michael van Poppel reports that the crash also killed two Afghan civilians on the ground.

NBC News reports that the civilian contractors were training Afghan security forces as part of Operation Resolute Support, and there were no reports of hostile activity in the area at the time of the crash.

Update: This sounds unlikely considering where the plane went down, but at least one source reports that the Taliban has claimed to have shot down the transport.
