Democrats already scrubbing slave owners Jefferson, Jackson from party fundraisers

Washington is currently facing considerable pressure to change its team name and mascot from the Redskins to something less racist. Critics like Sen. Harry Reid are now referring only to the Washington football team, and some media outlets are following suit.

Things will really become problematic, though, when Washington, America’s first president and also a slave owner, becomes seen as equally if not more offensive, leaving the city with simply “the football team.” It might sound preposterous, but the movement is already underway.

WSB-TV in Atlanta reported a month ago that Georgia Democrats were ridding themselves of the Jefferson-Jackson Dinner in favor of another name.

Laugh if you must, but the trend is spreading. Just this week, the Connecticut Democratic Party voted unanimously to remove the names of slave owners Thomas Jefferson and Andrew Jackson from their own fundraiser.

Thomas Jefferson and Andrew Jackson are history in Connecticut.

Under pressure from the NAACP, the state Democratic Party will scrub the names of the two presidents from its annual fundraising dinner because of their ties to slavery.

Party leaders voted unanimously Wednesday night in Hartford to rename the Jefferson Jackson Bailey dinner in the aftermath of last month’s fatal shooting of nine worshipers at a historic black church in Charleston, S.C.

The decision is believed to be unprecedented and could prompt Democrats in other states with similarly named events to follow suit.

Sorry, but as we’ve just shown, the move isn’t unprecedented.

Nick Balletto, the party’s first-year chairman, said blacks and Native Americans are a major constituency of the Democratic Party and when something offends someone, “it’s beyond being politically correct.”

Oh, did we mention this year’s headliner was fake Native American Sen. Elizabeth Warren, high cheek boned contributor to “Pow Wow Chow”?
