Liberal groups MoveOn.org and Color of Change today delivered to South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley an impressive 571,000 signatures demanding that the Confederate flag be taken down — a day after the state Senate voted overwhelmingly to take down the flag, and more than two weeks after the governor held a press conference to say that “it’s time to move the flag from the Capitol grounds” and “we are not going to allow this symbol to divide us any longer.”

The delivery of the petitions also follows by weeks the decision of several retailers, including Walmart, to remove all Confederate-themed merchandise from their shelves nationwide, and cable network TV Land’s much-ridiculed decision to pull “Dukes of Hazzard” reruns from the channel.
