CNN’s Erin Burnett is reporting Friday night that the fire that broke out at Quba Islamic Institute in southeast Houston early Friday morning was set intentionally, at least according to a preliminary investigation.
The Houston Chronicle spoke with assistant Imam Ahsan Zahid, who said arson investigators told him an accelerant was used in the fire. Zahid said investigators were pursuing two possibilities: the fire was set intentionally to damage the building, or a homeless person might have broken in to find refuge from the cold and started a fire.
As Twitchy reported earlier today, people were quick to link the shooting deaths of three Muslim students in Chapel Hill, N.C., to Friday’s fire in Houston, and reports that the fire was sent intentionally have only reinforced the belief that it was a hate crime.
Just talked to one of the people who runs the facility involved in #HoustonFire and I'm 100% convinced this was an intentional attack
