CNN is so in love with the idea of the countdown clock that at least one reporter has deemed it the Countdown News Network. We think our favorite countdown clock will always be the timer counting down the precious seconds until an asteroid would scrape by Earth within a terrifying 3.6 million miles. The standard “seconds until government shutdown” clock is a CNN classic, though, and sure enough, the network came through today.

A bit anxious, aren’t we? Give CNN until at least Thursday morning to fire up the timer.
I wonder if @CNN will have the countdown clock going all day today #governmentshutdown #deadline

Don’t question the importance of the CNN countdown clock.
if the gov't shuts down but CNN didn't have a countdown clock ticking, did it really happen?
