Sen. Roy Blunt blasts race and ethnicity checkboxes on gun purchase form

Sen. Roy Blunt (R-Mo.) wrote a letter to the ATF this weekend, demanding to know why the AFT would need to collect data on gun buyers’ race and ethnicity.

“It is disconcerting that the U.S. government is gathering this type of data on citizens when there is no connection between purchasing a firearm and an individual’s race or ethnicity,” Blunt wrote, according to a report in The Hill. “Any measure that may interfere with a citizen’s ability to exercise his or her constitutional right to purchase a firearm needs to be questioned.”

Fox News’ Shannon Bream promises to cover the story later this week.

“Emily Gets Her Gun” author and Fox 5 DC chief investigative reporter Emily Miller tweeted a picture of the form with the race and ethnicity fields.
