It’s a bold, powerful front page, but did the U.S. really say there’d be “hell to pay” if Vladimir Putin were somehow involved in the shooting down of Malaysia Airlines Flight 17?
It certainly wasn’t President Obama. Rather, it was Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), who addressed reporters today. As McCain told MSNBC, as reported by Yahoo News:
“… this is a horrible tragic event which was certainly unanticipated by anybody no matter who they are. And there will be incredible repercussions if this is the case,” he said. “If it is the result of either separatist or Russian actions mistakenly believing that this is a Ukrainian warplane, I think there’s going to be hell to pay and there should be.”
Earlier in the day before a speech on infrastructure, President Obama said the shooting down of the passenger jet “looks like it may be a tragedy.”

@SooperMexican No, that sounds decidedly UN-like "us". #POTUS @DailyMailUK
