Mike Huckabee backpedals on Common Core support [video]

In the opening monologue of his show “Huckabee” Saturday night, Mike Huckabee began to backpedal on his support for the Common Core curriculum, saying that he doesn’t support “what Common Core has become in many states or school districts.” He also encouraged the retirement of the “toxic” term Common Core, which he says has been hijacked.

#Huckabee does a great job articulating his position on #CommonCore tonight. Reasonable thinkers will be pleased with his clarity.

So, has Huckabee truly done a 180 degree turn on his support for Common Core, or has he just begun to backpedal with an eye on 2016?

Big surprise, Mike Huckabee is back pedalling on his support for common core now that people know what it is. Another windsock #Huckabee

— Turn Off Cable News (@amcap76) December 8, 2013

.@amcap76 Six months ago he supported it. Big error for someone who is supposed to be politically on top of things.

— Chomes (@Chomes) December 8, 2013

@Chomes No surprise his solution is to drop the name "common core". #Huckabee #stopcommoncore

— Turn Off Cable News (@amcap76) December 8, 2013

Huckabee missing the point on Common Core. Not addressing communist roots, including Ayers. http://t.co/u4lW6LpeAp

#CommonCore was not 'hijacked' as Huckabee falsely put forth. Told you he'd try to back peddle.

Huckabee is furiously trying to rewrite the history of #CommonCore declaring he was for it B4 it was"hijacked". @vonzion @CAforHuckabee

@marymauldin Guess I can scratch Huckabee off my list of potential GOP candidates for 2016. I will not back ANY supporter of Common Core!

— Darrell B. Harrison (@D_B_Harrison) December 8, 2013

Watching Huckabee – discussing Common Core. Ridiculous! CC created hastily w/out teachers involved. Sounds like Obamacare – will fail!

— RoseMary (@RoseMaryTBA) December 8, 2013

Seriously @GovMikeHuckabee that's it? No mention of the progressive curriculum common core is using to indoctrinate our children? #Huckabee

— Turn Off Cable News (@amcap76) December 8, 2013

Huckabee only did the #CommonCore segment to get himself out of fire 4supporting it. It's dishonest. He is only setting up 2016 run.@amcap76

@coloradorebecca Huckabee proved his isn't Conservative with his Common Core support; he faced huge backlash so he back pedals. #politician

Only one thing is certain.

Arne Duncan will dismiss this critique of common core since she's another white mom #Huckabee #stopcommoncore
