Even the president of the United States, who just celebrated his 52nd birthday, only managed to pay off his student loan debt less than a decade ago. Whether all those courses on constitutional law were worth it is unclear, but the burden of college tuition is important enough for President Obama to break his pledge to spend every minute of every day getting the economy back on track.
The president will hit the road this week to press for a fundamental shake-up in the way college tuition is paid. Now that the health care system is fixed, why not?

Yes, the president is taking this mission personally; a top aide says it’s an “obsession.” Look, he even signed the White House tweet:
Michelle & I finally repaid our student loans 9 yrs ago—so we know paying for college is tough. More Thursday to #MakeCollegeAffordable. –bo

Fortunately, you don’t have to wait until Thursday to learn ways to make college affordable.
