A group called the Dream Defenders set up shop in Florida Gov. Rick Scott’s office on Tuesday, demanding the governor call a special session of the state legislature to address racial profiling and the state’s “stand your ground” law. Scott was out of the state at the time, but he did meet with a small group of protesters this evening and stood by the law, issuing a press release afterward.
Tonight, the protestors again asked that I call a special session of the Legislature to repeal Florida’s Stand Your Ground law. I told them that I agree with the Task Force on Citizen Safety and Protection, which concurred with the law. I also reminded them of their right to share their views with their state legislators and let them know their opinions on the law.

Scott did reveal his plans for a Statewide Day of Prayer for Unity on Sunday, but his refusal to meet the Dream Defenders’ demands resulted in a promise of ongoing occupation.
