The capital had been placed on lockdown about an hour earlier as troopers began removing protesters who smeared themselves with fake blood and chained themselves to the railing in the gallery. Sen. Wendy Davis, whose filibuster in June had helped delay the passage of the bill, accused her pro-life colleagues of twisting the rules.
