Americans leave US embassy ahead of Egypt protests

Nonessential personnel and their families left the U.S. Embassy in Cairo today in advance of Sunday’s protests against the Muslim Brotherhood and President Mohamed Morsi. It was last Sept. 11 that a mob scaled the walls of the U.S. Embassy in Cairo and tore down the American flag.

Protesters aren’t happy with what they see as the Obama administration’s support of the Muslim Brotherhood. Banners reading “Obama supports terrorism” were joined by another featuring the distorted face of U.S. Ambassador Anne Patterson and the words, “Crone, go home.”
