Is state of the union a cabin lockdown in CA? Or should media downgrade coverage & give more to SOTU & 20mn still seeking fulltime work?

What to do? A split screen? Tonight’s the president’s big night, but the possible end of the Christopher Dorner saga has most of the nation’s eyes glued to aerial shots of smoke rising from a cabin in Big Bear. Look, there are charts to prove it.

How about that suspected nuclear explosion that shook the ground in North Korea?

It’s only a half-hour until the president’s speech, but the countdown began this afternoon as soon as news of Dorner’s sighting hit. Howard Kurtz was among the first to wonder how Obama would be affected, but he certainly wasn’t alone.
#Dorner is about to ruin a big night for all his favorite news anchors. #sotu

Not sure which will blow more smoke today, #Dorner on fire or Obama's #SOTU. #tcot #GOP

Anderson Cooper #CNN is so disappointed he's got to cover #Chris Dorner while his idol gives the #SOTU.

Feel bad for Obama. All he wanted was a slow news day for #SOTU but then this Dorner stuff hits the fan. Poor guy.

Highly unlikely, but if Dorner standoff lasts until 9 p.m., what due TV nets do re: SOTU? Keep Dorner feed in a small box in the corner?

After all this Dorner drama, I need to hear the reassuring, soothing tone of President Obama's voice. -No one, ever. #SotU

Or runs test pattern MT @BradThor Whatever network sticks w/ #Dorner coverage and says stuff #SOTU, will have the best ratings of the night.

50 minutes to SOTU all three cable news channels still wall-to-wall on Big Bear, Calif. http://t.co/Obl7G46c

I'm sorta hoping the Dorner story will stay "hot" just long enough to give me an excuse not to watch the #SOTU.

Of course, you could argue that a burning cabin (along with the accompanying #TeamDorner tweets) pretty much is the state of the union, sadly. Who says conservatives don’t understand metaphor?
