Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer has clashed with the Obama administration before over immigration, and today the governor has signed an executive order in direct opposition to the administration’s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program.
Governor Brewer has just issued an Executive Order denying public benefits and state IDs to individuals granted Deferred Action by feds.

House Democrats and others praised the Deferred Action program, which went into effect today following the president’s signing of his own executive order in July. The program allows young illegal immigrants to apply for temporary work permits and safety from the threat of deportation for a two-year period.

President Obama took a great first step, but we need Republicans to join us to pass comprehensive immigration reform. #DREAMers

This is a responsible, compassionate action, and it’s time Congress addresses comprehensive immigration reform. #Dreamers

Arizona Public Media has posted a copy of Brewer’s executive order, which says that “allowing more than an estimated 80,000 Deferred Action recipients improper access to state or local public benefits … will have significant and lasting impacts on the Arizona budget, its health care system and additional public benefits that Arizona taxpayers fund.”
