If you listened to college radio in the ’80s, you’re certainly familiar with Morrissey, who with his band The Smiths brought us songs like “Bigmouth Strikes Again.” But when fellow trans-Atlantic transplant Piers Morgan calls you out on Twitter as “silly,” you must have said something stupid.
While the rest of the world eagerly watches the London Olympics, Morrissey has warned via an online post that “the spirit of 1939 Germany now pervades throughout media-brand Britain.”
I am unable to watch the Olympics due to the blustering jingoism that drenches the event. Has England ever been quite so foul with patriotism? The “dazzling royals” have, quite naturally, hi-jacked the Olympics for their own empirical needs, and no oppositional voice is allowed in the free press. It is lethal to witness.
Even fans are finding this latest rant hard to take.
I am a left-wing anti-monarchist vegetarian, and I'd just like to say that Morrissey doesn't half talk a complete load of rubbish.

Morrissey: So intent on being controversial he's now beyond parody. Utterly predictable reaction to every event. National bore.
