New York State Senator Adriano Espaillat this afternoon conceded the 13th congressional district race to Congressman Charles Rangel following more than a week of vote counting. The most recent count showed a nearly 1,000-vote lead for Rangel.

At the press conference, Espaillat did not announce plans to re-run for his New York State Senate seat but said that he would make an announcement within 48 hours.
Interviewed by NY1 following the announcement, Rangel said, “It may be a little too early to talk about healing, since the political fights are still not over,” referring to the State Senate race.
The concession by Espaillat hands Rangel his 22nd term.
