Trump surrogate deletes tweets after Donald Trump hits Ron DeSantis on abortion

This is unfortunate because it’s just become fodder for the online fight between Team Trump and Team DeSantis. There’s no denying that former President Donald Trump deserves huge respect for appointing Supreme Court justices that made the Dobbs decision overturning Roe v. Wade possible. Overturning Roe v. Wade has been a conservative crusade for 50 years and it finally came true. The sad fact is, though, that Republicans don’t know how to win. Most Republicans, that is.

It’s no secret that Trump has been attacking DeSantis from the Left, even praising Charlie Christ’s time as governor of Florida. Now Trump is saying that Florida’s ban on abortion after six weeks is too harsh.

Fox News reports:

Former President Trump attacked Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis for his abortion stance on Monday, suggesting in an interview that Florida’s six-week restriction was “too harsh.”

Trump made the statement in a wide-ranging interview with The Messenger published on Monday. Trump refused to elaborate on his own stance regarding abortion, however, instead claiming to have heard that pro-life voters opposed DeSantis’ bill.

“He has to do what he has to do,” Trump said when asked about Florida’s abortion rules. “If you look at what DeSantis did, a lot of people don’t even know if he knew what he was doing. But he signed six weeks, and many people within the pro-life movement feel that that was too harsh.”

When asked about whether he would support restrictions on abortions after six weeks of pregnancy, Trump replied, “I’m looking at all options.”

Many people in the pro-life movement thought six weeks was too harsh? How many is “many”?

We would like some specifics from Trump on what’s acceptable. Fifteen weeks?

The funny part is that Team Trump’s Alex Bruesewitz got busy and deleted a bunch of tweets. “Sadly, under DeSantis’ leadership, Florida has become the abortion destination state of the south. Hopefully he does something about this. Protect life!” reads one.

What do you think? Is Trump reading the electorate correctly and saying the majority would like the Republican Party to moderate on abortion? Or will this cost him support? It will be tough for Trump to win over Democrats just by moderating on abortion.
