As Twitchy reported earlier, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was to make an announcement Monday afternoon, and it was to invoke the Emergencies Act to give himself tools to use against the trucker protest that’s overtaken Ottawa (even though he said it was just a “small, fringe minority” with “unacceptable views.”
Trudeau said the action was about “keeping Canadian citizens safe” and, ironically, “restoring confidence in our constitution.”

Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland let it know the government was going after the truckers’ funding and said that banks can now freeze the assets of funds they believe are going to the “illegal blockade” and be protected against civil liability to boot.
The Trudeau administration is going to freeze crowdfunding institutions, cryptocurrency transactions, corporate, and personal bank accounts that support the Canadian truckers.

New rule in Canada: If you think incorrectly, your bank account will be seized and you'll have no recourse https://t.co/518EU45nZj

So peaceful protester = terrorist
— ThinkingIsEncouraged (@sonsamadams) February 14, 2022
Peaceful truckers now considered terrorists?
— Me Chomper (@chmpr) February 14, 2022
Doesn’t sound like a free society to me…
— Red Kryptonite🚛 (@fireflytrails) February 14, 2022
Hey Canada…. If you take away people’s ability to protest peacefully in order to express their grievances, what do you leave them with?
This is not how Democracies act.

He needs to be physically removed from office.
— JD Sharp (@imjdsharp) February 14, 2022
He literally just lied to the world
— Bolo the Ole Miss Cat (@cat_bolo) February 14, 2022
Canadians, if you let them have this power they’ll never give it back.
— Texan-American🇺🇸 (@Shack8588G) February 14, 2022
Burning down small businesses and murdering people is just freedom of expression. Honking at the prime minister is definitely terrorism.

Trudeau does everything to avoid actually meeting with the people. Who does he serve?
— Amy Noelle (@NoelleTMD) February 14, 2022
Like this idiot would understand leadership
— The Crypto Carnivore (@hedgeguy78) February 14, 2022
What a bastard.
— Freckle the Ginger (@freckle_the) February 14, 2022
This is some real Banana Republic stuff going on up there. From the Canadian media I've been reading, the consensus is this is a colossal failure in leadership from Trudeau
— hugh (@ROU812R) February 14, 2022
It’ll be interesting to see what this results in. But I don’t particularly like the precedent of tyranny being set by our northern neighbor. Hopefully Canadians realize this shouldn’t stand.
— Eeyore (@someguymusing) February 14, 2022
What is this? How can they do this? It’s diabolical.
— musicnp (@musicnpny) February 14, 2022
Time to run the banks.
— nycnash (@nycnash1) February 14, 2022
#Canadian citizens, initiate a bank run and withdraw funds and close accounts.
— John (@MediaMind1984) February 14, 2022
If I lived in Canada I’d be getting as much of my money as possible out of the country.
— Roland Deschain (@DsRoland) February 14, 2022
Stealing and freezing bank accounts without a court order is basically suspending due process and the rule of law. Good luck Canada. Dictator Trudeau is here to stay
— Ryan the rebel millennial (@patriotic_giant) February 14, 2022
Nowhere do they say they will actually talk with the truckers. They will just use any means at their disposal to crush the protests rather than addressing legitimate grievances.
— Skoup 🇺🇸⭐️✝️🌷 (@Skoup) February 14, 2022
This will not end well for them.
— Dan Gleesac (@Area_Resident) February 14, 2022
Who can honestly take a look at what is going on under Trudeau in Canada and say “these are the good guys”?
Serious Question.
— Benny (@bennyjohnson) February 14, 2022
Trudeau knows there is no violence amongst the truckers. The Ambassador Bridge was cleared easily and peacefully. It's really just peaceful protests now.
The real move today is not policing. It's being able to seize opposition/conservative bank accounts — without a court order.
— Ezra Levant 🍁🚛 (@ezralevant) February 14, 2022
Don’t worry, @JustinTrudeau isn’t “calling in the military”. He is just authorizing banks to unilaterally freeze your accounts on the basis of suspicion alone, no court order required, with legal immunity. I hope everyone realizes how much more dangerous this is than the military
— Viva Frei (@thevivafrei) February 14, 2022
Trudeau is backed into a corner with no other options — except to maybe talk to the truckers and end the mandates.
