CNN hall monitor Brian Stelter had better make room on the couch, because apparently Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez watches a lot of Fox News as well and has noticed how the entire network refers to her as “Cortez,” likely because it sounds more Hispanic and therefore causes more anxiety to its xenophobic viewers.
At least that’s her latest complaint.
By the way: Fox News likes to say my name (incorrectly) as “Cortez,” which I can only imagine is bc that sounds more ‘stereotypically’ Hispanic + probably incites more ‘anxiety’ for them.
My last name is not “Cortez,” just as theirs isn’t “Ingra” or “Carl” or “Hann.”
— Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (@AOC) March 21, 2019
Serious question: We’re putting together this website while Fox News is doing its nightly thing, so is this even true? Somebody ask Stelter; he’d know … but he might lie about it too.
You may be unsurprised to learn that this is untrue. I checked every mention of "Cortez" on the Ingraham Angle in March and didn't find @IngrahamAngle referring to @AOC as "Cortez" once. On 3/14, Rabbi Aryeh Spero said "Cortez and her quartet," but Laura never did. https://t.co/MRhGnYxQFH
— Tom Elliott (@tomselliott) March 21, 2019
Just checked @seanhannity, whom she also accuses of this ostensible hate crime. Like Laura, Hannity did not refer to @AOC as "Cortez" once in the month of March (I checked every show). She's mentioned 20x in one episode, but every time correctly.
— Tom Elliott (@tomselliott) March 21, 2019
I've almost never heard them say just "Cortez", especially since you've become more prominent. These days "AOC" seems most oft used
— Adam (@adamUCF) March 21, 2019
Actually, they always say your full last name and it drives me crazy.
— Jill (@acapri74) March 21, 2019
Wrong, FOX NEWS always says your complete name. Your wrong as usual!

Holy shit!!! YOU'RE SO OPPRESSED!!!! ARE YOU GOING TO BE OK????
— Buff (@Killed007I) March 21, 2019
Fox should call you Ocasio. Wrong of them to call you “Cortez” if true. Off putting to Hispanics. Thanks for the advice. Hope Fox listens. https://t.co/akjnCMBnOJ

Good Lord, woman, what planet do you live on? Yes, that's it-the big conspiracy is to make people feel anxiety over a Hispanic sounding last name. We've got you trying to be a victim over a Hispanic name and "Beto" trying to get political capital out of his fake Hispanic name!
— Sydney Ellison (@SydneyEllison8) March 21, 2019
Ted Cruz, a Hispanic, beat Robert "Beto" O'Rourke, an Irishman.
In case you forgot.

- 'Hell of a take'! Water main break leaves thousands in East Harlem without running water and NYT editorial board's Mara Gay knows exactly who's to blame
We thought she used to go by Sandy back in the barrios of Westchester.
