The Grinch Doesn't Just Steal Christmas: New Jersey School Cancels Halloween In Name of 'Equity'

Twitchy

We wish we were joking, but we're not.

In an effort of 'building equity, fostering inclusion, and building a sense of belonging' a school district in New Jersey has canceled Halloween celebrations.

Bah humbug.

Wrong holiday, we know, but the sentiment applies.

How bad is this decision?

Even Governor Phil Murphy chimed in:

NJ 101.5 reports:

MAPLEWOOD — A North Jersey school district's decision to ban in-school Halloween activities has caught the ire of Gov. Phil Murphy.

The South Orange-Maplewood School District banned any Halloween events at all of its schools during school hours. Schools are allowed to work with parent organizations to host events after school hours.

Students at all grade levels are also forbidden from wearing their Halloween costumes at schools in the district.

Sounds like loads of fun.

Not.

No, you cannot make it up. Insane doesn't begin to cover it.

We have lost the plot. Dressing up for Halloween at school was one of the joys of childhood.

SMOD, take us now.

A harsh, but fair, point. Also wrong either way.

So are we.

Although a school in Michigan also canceled Halloween festivities.

Ridiculous.

Yes it is. Wokeness creates a cultural desert. This writer has been saying that for years.

We are robbing our kids of so much of the joy of childhood.

It's cruel, unfair, and unnecessary. People should be outraged.

Not exactly. Circus performers get to wear their costumes.

But it might hurt someone's feelings, so we have to make life not-fun for everyone.

Who knew?

Honestly could not have said it better ourselves. DEI is garbage that sucks the joy out of every facet of life. It is petty and unfair and utterly useless.

What should happen on Halloween is that every child shows up in costume, marched into school by parents who think this a ridiculous farce. Defy these administrators who think 'inclusion' means turning school into a cultural wasteland. Remind them who is actually in charge.
