DeRay McKesson was arrested during protests in Baton Rouge, LA Saturday night. Ironically, just hours before he was arrested he tweeted this …
Arrest the police. #BatonRouge
— deray (@deray) July 10, 2016
Apparently it went the OTHER way.

It is being reported that DeRay was arrested for obstructing a highway.

Twitter erupted after the news, with #FreeDeray trending at the top of trends for hours and hours … surely having nothing to do with DeRay’s BFF being in charge there these days.
I'm sure #FreeDeray hashtag atop trends for a guy who is BFF with Twitter CEO and sits on advisory board is just coincidence.

Totes a coincidence. Forget that this arrest also gave DeRay an epic photo opportunity and the accolades of being arrested that may finally solidify his ranks as an “activist.”
Sadly it also highlights where priorities are these days …
There has been more outrage, condemnation and sympathy for Deray than for the 5 dead cops shot doing their job. #AllLivesMatter #FreeDeray

Tsk tsk, people are far too busy worrying about DeRay.

Fair question.
Some on Twitter were also a bit … skeptical of DeRay’s arrest:

Oh, you want the cops to #FreeDeray? I'm pretty sure they're gonna take their time with that… "pigs in a blanket – fry em like bacon." ?

• Orchestrate your own arrest
• Get others to demand your release
• Incite more violence

At this point it is unclear when DeRay may be released but it sounds like he is “doing ok” …

Maybe when the police tell you to stay out of the road you should stay out of the road? Just a thought.
