George Zimmerman, who is accused of second-degree murder in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin, has filed suit against NBC for defamation, claiming that the network intentionally edited the audio of his 911 call to make him appear as a “racist, predatory villain.”

NBC aired the audio three times on its “Today” program, leaving out a direct question from the 911 operator about Martin’s race, leaving in only Zimmerman’s response: “He looks black.”

NBC has said it will fight the suit, saying that the network did not intend to portray Zimmerman unfairly.

It will be interesting to hear why NBC decided to edit the 911 call as it did if not to change the public’s perception.

The suit calls NBC’s selective editing and broadcast of the call “journalistic crimes” that transformed Zimmerman “into one of the most hated men in America.” Twitchy earlier has reported on the numerous death threats against Zimmerman, and it seems as though his trial is taking place not only in the media but on social media as well.

Zimmerman has supporters online as well, at least in his suit against NBC.

I’m sorry but the only reason to edit the tape the way they did was to portray him as a racist which fit the image of Zimmerman they wanted to paint. The left hates it when the real bigots are revealed, and it’s them.

By the way, voting to give away other people’s money does not make you a nice person. Giving of your own time and money does.

Being in blatant denial about the facts of economics and history does not make more intelligent. Learning basic facts of economics, in fact, makes you more likely to vote conservative: http://www.forbes.com/sites/carrielukas/2012/10/16/demography-isnt-destiny-when-voters-are-economically-informed/

“Higher thinkers” would most likely take into account ideas such as the law of unintended consequences, which liberals don’t seem to grasp. That’s why a lot of people stupidly yelled business owners were just being mean in the post-election layoffs. No, they’re dealing with the realities Obama created. What he meant to do is one thing; what he actually did is much, much broader.

“More educated” does not necessarily equal more intelligent. Paul Krugman is very educated. Krugman also believes the best way to get out of this horrific economic situation we’re in is for the government to borrow and spend more money.

Yes, our government is in debt equal to our total GDP, and the obvious solution is to borrow more money. That is weapons-grade stupid right there, from a very educated moron.

Pfft. Always love how they punctuate the wildest claims with “It’s a fact,” or if they’re on really shaky ground, just “FACT,” in all caps.

Actually, it is lefties who live in fear, and need Nanny to look after them. They fear guns, so want everyone else’s taken away. They fear poor health, so want Nanny to regulate everyone’s diet — no transfats or Big Gulps for you! They fear independence, so create a culture of dependency, where all must look first to Nanny to care for them. Finally, they fear the truth, because the truth exposes their weakness and mania for control.

          FACT.

Well good for Zimmerman. The way NBC so KNOWINGLY altered the tape is tantamount to defamation and slander! You know what needs to asked of the anti-zimmerman crowd: why did Trayvon Martin choose to assault of Zimmerman? The answer the critical race crowd will deny to the grave: he’s the product of a community culture that teaches its young men some very dangerous ideas about the reality of violence. Sure, a lot of young guys suffer from the same ideas, but in Black and Latino communities especially there is a problem with: young men receiving elevated levels of status from committing violence, being taught to exhibit lack of empathy towards persons injured, being shown that restraint is subject to fodder for social mockery, and having violent acts sugar-coated and glorified through their pop culture. That kid made the wrong choice that night, and if the anti-zimmerman crowd wants no more repeats; they need to ask themselves why a teenage boy thought it would be a good idea to viciously pummel a man to the point where the man feared for his life. They need to be asking themselves what was behind his choice.

I would like to share a personal story –
My son’s best friend in the whole world is black. He spends so much time at our house that we loving call him “our black son” (I’m his white mom, husband is white dad, etc).

We adore him and I cannot imagine our family without him!
Now, I am not a hands off parent. I have always had very blunt and frank age appropriate discussions with my kids regarding sex, drugs, violence, and poor decision making in general. Now that my oldest kids are in their teens the conversations take place almost daily.

I have, naturally, included our adopted son in on these “discussions”.
I am amazed by his (unfortunate) impression regarding his lot in life, and how white people have contributed to it. I gently point out areas where members of his race have been very successful at wrecking the black community. This is apparently not discussed as often as it should be within the black community. But, what white people have done, and what they are told that they will do seems to receive quite a bit of attention.
I always assure him that his future is his to own,not tied to the past or the actions of others, and not to ever think that his skin color limits him in the eyes of (conservative) white people.
I do what I can to correct what he has been told. My husband says often that he hires people because of what they can do for him,and never because of their skin color (I think that has been a powerful statement).
I believe that my family has shown by our actions that we care for people individually regardless of their race, religion, sex, income, sexual preference, etc.
I also never miss an opportunity to tell him that this is how all of the white people I know feel-we cheer for the success of black youth…and they are not a bunch of racist white bigots hell bent on keeping the black man down.
I cannot tell you how badly I wish that I could fix things for the black community, but sadly much of their struggles today are self inflicted. :(

Good for you, Silent! Once, a few years ago when I was managing an apartment complex that was, to say the least, disadvantaged when I took it over. We rehabbed the place and made it livable and enjoyable. I had a young man walk into my office, inquire about studio units, and when I told him the requirements, he broke down in tears. His roommate had stolen his money and his property, and he was at his wits’ end. Now here he is, 6’4”, 250 pounds if he was an ounce, 23 years old, black and trying to hide his tears from a middle-aged white woman.

He slept on my sofa that night, and for four more weeks until he had the money for an apartment. By the end of the week he was calling me “momma”. As we grew closer, he confided that he’d grown up in Oakland CA, and he didn’t believe there were white people like us–that he’d been taught all his life that white people were horrible and mean and wanted blacks to die or be enslaved.

I’d love to give a “Miracle on 34th Street” ending to this, but a few months later, he was drinking, smoking pot, lost his job, quit paying his bills, and had to be evicted. Broke my heart, because I wanted him to make good choices. He had such potential, but childhood training is strong, and he went on to make white people the enemy in his eyes and mind, and nothing can change that. You’re not a racist for giving this young man new choices and new thought patterns. Just don’t be devastated when he turns. Conditioning will probably win out. Best of luck to you.

        • Silenttype78

          So true.
I have little hope that there is anything we can do to over come his nurturing.
I wish we could have an honest discussion about the problems facing the black community. If you are white and try talking about it then you are immediately called a racist, who doesn’t know anything about being black. If a black person tries to address it honestly then they are ostracized and treated like a race traitor.

          It’s frustrating. :(

          • JeannieJ

Silent, I also have a 3-year old mixed race grandling…a little girl, and I can only do my best to make sure her parents are on the right track of giving her guidance without stacking the deck. Her father’s been very protective and present so far, and I just hope he continues being the strong presence he is in her life, whether or not he and my daughter remain together. I frankly don’t want her to grow up as part of the “black community”, because she’s not black, she’s also white…and right now, the only supportive extended family they’ve got is my husband and I. Would be a slap in the face for them to reject that just because it’s white, but there’s always that fear.

I feel your frustration, believe me. Stay strong and true to your heart.

NBC is not too worried and for good reason, they have lost this one now it will only take two decades for Zimmerman to collect and they know it. the NBC lawyers will get paid more to write the first brief than Zimmerman will get paid for the intentional damage.
