Marine Sgt. Ryan T. Sotelo awarded Silver Star for bravery

From Stars and Stripes:

His meritorious acts that day also included sprinting through heavy fire across open ground to retrieve the body of his fallen lieutenant, killing an insurgent who had opened fire on an exposed Marine and engaging enemy fighters to distract them away from a reinforcement unit that had become pinned down in the battle, according to the military

“When we perform out in country we don’t do it for metals,” Sotelo said, according to the Marines press release. We do it for the Marine on the right and left of us.”

Sotelo is preparing to deploy this summer as a scout sniper with the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit.
