As you’ve probably heard by now, earlier today, McDonald’s landed themselves in hot oil after a tweet went out from their corporate account calling Trump “a disgusting excuse of a President” (and noting his “tiny hands”). They later claimed that the account had been compromised and promised a thorough investigation.
Well, they’ve just released their findings:
Based on our investigation, we have determined that our Twitter account was hacked by an external source. Read more: https://t.co/X5NwVI5sKp

Here’s the full statement:
Based on our investigation, we have determined that our Twitter account was hacked by an external source. We took swift action to secure it, and we apologize this tweet was sent through our corporate McDonald’s account.
That’s not nearly as exciting as we’d hoped.
