As Twitchy told you, Donald Trump landed himself in hot water today — on both sides of the aisle — when he said that if abortion were illegal, “there has to be some form of punishment” for a woman who gets an abortion. For many pro-lifers, that flies in the face of what the pro-life movement is about. For them, it’s not about punishing women, but about helping them and promoting the sanctity of life:
Every woman and child has dignity and worth. Pro-life movement offers support, hope, healing to those caught in a culture that devalues life

And as Twitchy told you, facing the backlash, Trump backpedaled sharply, saying that the abortion practitioner — not the woman — “would be held legally responsible” if abortion were banned.
Well, anyway, Ted Cruz took notice of Trump’s flailing recklessness and issued a statement of his own:
We shouldn’t be talking about punishing women; we should affirm their dignity and gift to bring life into the world https://t.co/OwWR96YTF0

His campaign chair Chad Sweet also addressed Trump’s remarks on CNN:
