Earlier today, CNN’s Kate Bolduan pressed Clinton campaign strategist Joel Benenson on whether or not Hillary would be willing to debate Bernie Sanders in New York:

More from The Hill:
“This is a man who said he’d never run a negative ad ever. He’s now running them. They’re planning to run more,” Joel Benenson, Clinton’s chief strategist, said on CNN. “Let’s see the tone of the campaign he wants to run before we get to any other questions.”
…“Sen. Sanders doesn’t get to decide when we debate, particularly when he’s running a very negative campaign against us,” he continued.“Let’s see if he goes back to the kind of tone he said he was going to set early on. If he does that, then we’ll talk about debates,” Benenson added.
Refusing confrontation unless her opponent changes his “tone”?
Good thing for GOP, their frontrunner isn't afraid to debate anyone at any time..Oh right, lose that argument too https://t.co/d6Xa9B5i8o

But back to Hillary: A woman who’s not afraid to back down from a challenge. Except when she is.
Wait, is she.. Is she seriously demanding a safe space FOR A DEBATE!? What a time to be alive… @thehill

@thehill Jeez, what tone. Aren't debates all about one POV vs another? Unless the tone is for him to be more agreeable to her message

@thehill Wow! looks like there will be no general election debates if she thinks Bernie needs to tone it down! She ain't seen nothing yet.
