At a rally in Iowa last week, police arrested a protester who tried to hit Trump with tomatoes.

Today, Trump came prepared for round two:

Don’t worry — there’s video:

Well, alrighty then.

Yeah … or not.

What a time to be alive.

Are they wearing any certain color of shirt

    • https://sites.google.com/site/joedecaro/home Joe DeCaro

      The Donald’s Brown Shirts?

    • interestedobserver2

      Dammit, beat me to it.

  • KellyGregg1985

If they bring a tomato to a fight…..

    • The Masked Avatar

      You bring a coconut.

      • D H

did you ask for a coconut?

      • Penny✓ItsSoFluffy! #GoBolts!

      • FranklinWasRight

I thought it was avocado? My bad.

      • Turning Leaves

Just don’t mix it with the lime.

  • The Masked Avatar

Actually, this is something I like to see in a candidate. I’m tired of this “reaching across the isle” nonsense. What has that gotten us? Two things; jack and squat.

    • tops116 ✓Quipper

“Reach across the aisles” vs. “Knock the crap out of ’em.” I’m pretty sure there’s an acceptable middle ground somewhere in there.

      • aztectrumpet

not only that, but they aren’t mutually exclusive.Trump tells his supporters to do one but will do the other himself

    • Tyrconnell

But isn’t one of trump’s attacks on Cruz is that he can’t make deals? Now here we are condemning deal making.

      • Knight64

If the guy across the isle has tomatoes he brought with which to pelt you, there are no deals in the future. No matter how far into the future you can see.

    • ricoliv

Depends on the “isle.” Capri, fine. Manhattan, not so much

  • thetreyman
  • BrokenTusk

Eh, if you toss a tomato at someone, I do not care who it is, you kinda deserve to get the crap kicked out of you.

    • Ali’s Snackbar

BINGO!!! I also believe throwing an object at someone is an act of violence.

      • Bruce

It would count as battery at the least, I’d think. Maybe assault, but I’m not sure on the legal specifics. Plus, heck, if you let them get away with tomatoes, I would not put it past some leftist to try to sneak a grenade or molotov cocktail in.

    • JosephBloughs ✓Viagrafied

Agree, you don’t just get to assault someone out of impunity. Still, there are times when it just might be worth it…

    • https://sites.google.com/site/joedecaro/home Joe DeCaro

What happens when it becomes: “I do not care who it is, you kinda deserve to get the crap kicked out of you” if you disagree with The Donald?

      • Knight64

How about we cross that bridge when we come to it. Neither of us should hold our breathe, BTW.

        • https://sites.google.com/site/joedecaro/home Joe DeCaro

After last night, hopefully we won’t have to come near that bridge.

          • Knight64

Are you suggesting that a 4 point victory in only the first state to weigh in is going to eliminate Trump from the field?

          • https://sites.google.com/site/joedecaro/home Joe DeCaro

            “… hopefully, as in “with hope; in a hopeful manner”;
from “to wish for something with expectation of its fulfillment.”
            And that’s what I’m “suggesting”.

          • Knight64

            OK, Sparky.

    • schveiguy

Um… he may pay your legal fees, but how does he get you out of jail? Kicking the crap out of someone is not just a civil matter.

  • tops116 ✓Quipper

The upside is, if Trump supporters in Iowa take him up on this, they’ll be arrested and won’t be able to caucus tonight.

  • thetreyman

Yes, disagreement is now throwing a tomato at your face. Well that’s a hell of a way to look at it. LOL

  • Karla1953

Just listened to Sarah Palin say not nice things about the Cruz campaign and the caucus on CNN……………………..very disappointed so not needed.

  • littlerobo

Big mistake by Trump. He should have told his audience to please escort them closer to his podium so they would have a better shot at him. Help make me a target. Maybe apologize if they got in the way of the tomato. That would prove that he was a true conservative.

..Mm-hmm, and the rest of us will take a presidential Prez over either of these “mob-baiters” any day. (Oh YES Trump just proved himself to be a hooliganism-monger by telling his addled supporters to beat up someone who might be carrying a tomato…A #Thug is a #Thug, Paladin.)

      • Greg Michaels

So how did you end up with Obama?
        http://www.wsj.com/articles/BL-WB-5169

        • Deplorable Jesse-Messy Hammer

What do you mean how did I end up with Obama? Who says I ever voted for him? (I didn’t ever vote for him.) I know all about the event in your WSJ-link…What I said was that we serious Americans WON’T replace one rabble-rouser with another.

          • Kate

Yep- I’m not voting for a big-government progressive, no matter what letter he has after his name. I’d rather choose murder (DNC win) over suicide (letting Trump turn the GOP into a party full of neo-Nazis and clowns, which will take at least a decade to undo).

          • Deplorable Jesse-Messy Hammer

Sorry to disagree with you, but I’ll NEVER vote for a Dem (since they all want to finish the “transformation” started by Obama). I’ll be supporting Ted Cruz in the Repub-primaries (for which I’m properly registered-as-“R” with my county govt) AND THEN I’ll vote the eventual GOP-nominee (and I’ll LIKE voting for ’em) no matter who that nominee is (even Trump).
…BTW, Trump isn’t a neonazee…He’s just been talking like one (deliberately so) since he started running, because as I keep telling everyone, he’s a DemoPlant trying to make the rest of the party look like xenophobes…..which is why CNN and the Left WANT Trump nominated so’s Hillary’ll be a shoo-in.

      • littlerobo

I don’t know man. If somebody threw a tomato at me, I would seek immediate retribution. I would not say thank you sir, may I have another? This whole thread is so beta.

        • Deplorable Jesse-Messy Hammer

You misunderstand totally: Trump incited the crowd to curbstomp anyone who looks like they might be holding something to throw at TRUMP, not at any of themselves. And BTW, you are asking “may I have another table-rousing miscreant in the White House next year sir?”

          • littlerobo

There are no curbs in there for someone to be stomped upon, so back off with the hysteria. Plus, I thought it was great that he said that. Lastly, I am assuming you meant rabble rousing, I would like someone in the White House who has at least as much testosterone as Barbie, or Thatcher, or Palin.

          • Deplorable Jesse-Messy Hammer

Don’t get so literal…Trump’s shown NO testosterone in speaking about Vlad Putin…And this is a presidential election, NOT a popularity-contest for “jock of the year”.

          • kd

Sometimes I get a little ugly when Trump comes up in discussion. I do not see him as an Alpha Male at all, he borders on effeminate. Why do people not see it…

          • littlerobo

Jock of the year? If you show the fortitude to defend yourself, and say it, you are a Jock now? For people to get the vapors if you say something that was considered common sense 15 years ago? You actually said “curbstomp”, which was extreme hyperbole IMO. Like in Citizen X maybe?

          • Deplorable Jesse-Messy Hammer

Why don’t you go take an extreme hyperbolic leap off a very high building?

          • littlerobo

That would be a no. You are wishing my death? That is worse than throwing a tomato. All I did was disagree with you. Don’t incite these commentors to wish for my death. I’ll take the tomato.

          • Deplorable Jesse-Messy Hammer

Oh lighten up Francis. “Look, up in the sky, it’s a BIRD, it’s a PLANE, it’s…it’s…not up in the sky anymore”.

          • littlerobo

That made perfect sense???? Twitchy has the greatest commentors, like Politico, or Mediaite, or maybe YouTube. LOL

      • Paladin

Sadly, Cruz will want to negotiate with the frothing masses across the aisle. While I think Cruz would make the best president, Cruz isn’t skilled enough to stomp over the mindless masses.

Whatever republican president that goes up against Bernie’s insane crowd has to be able to fight one on one with insanity, that is why Trump is so popular now and it shows. Were America more civilized, Cruz would be leading polls by 80% or more, but civility abandoned the left almost a century ago, and the right now has to choose between continuing to fail on the moral high ground, or to grit their teeth and fight the battlefield back to civility.

        • Deplorable Jesse-Messy Hammer

…”that is why Trump is so popular now and it shows”, you say. Funny you should say it now, since the caucus-results will define just how popular he is or isn’t with registered primary voters.

          • Paladin

Well yeah, versus a conservative base Cruz is likely to take a lead.

I’ll say it again: Cruz is the BEST candidate for PRESIDENT, but in order to become president, one must do battle with and defeat a hysteria driven democrat base that will make any effort, legal or otherwise, to win the votes.

Trump’s popularity is not because he is the best candidate, but because he is willing to do what other candidates will not, namely fight back in the realms beyond the podium.

          • Deplorable Jesse-Messy Hammer

…”And do so unpresidentially”, you forget to add. Tell me more about this “fighting back in the realms beyond the podium” (“realms” which I assume to mean the media): In all these 6 months of Trump & his supporters being so worked up about how Megyn Kelly moderated the 1st debate, did Trump EVER have a bad word to say about the CNBC-mods who played “gotcha” with the whole repub-field in the 4th debate? IF NOT, then WHY was he unwilling to do so?

          • Paladin

You’re being unreasonably confrontational, at no point have I said Trump SHOULD win, I’m saying it’s unfortunate that he’s the only one that stands a chance.

To answer your question, Megyn Kelly was a greater threat than the CNBC mods. Everyone right of center knows about the CNBC mods, but many Republicans still cling to Fox news like a holy scripture. My guess is he knew that and focused on Kelly in order to break the facade Fox was putting on. He made people look at her questions, and do the deductive reasoning conservatives are well known for.

Now, more to my point. If Cruz becomes the nominee, yeah sure he’s my first pick and I’d vote for him in a heartbeat. The problem? Democrats have an ass-load of paid off SJW judges that care nothing for the rule of law and could quickly sail through the red tape of a lawsuit painting Cruz as illegitimate for the presidency, no matter what the rule of law states.

Cruz would then, like all good boys, bow down to the courts and try to fight in the rigged system where he would be eaten alive by democrats that will wave his arguments off and simply refuse to put him on the ballot. Dems own the voting machines, it’d be an easy thing to do.

Trump, unfortunately, is the only candidate that would barrel his way through any complaint and shock the hell out of the left.

          • Deplorable Jesse-Messy Hammer

How the he11 would you know any of this? That’s a rhetorical question, so don’t bother answering. Good night, sir.

          • Paladin

Gee I dunno, maybe I look at things like….modern history?

Bakeries, journalists, and heroes rot in hateful social justice prisons while militant gays, planned parenthood, and hillary clinton roam protected by an army of lawyers and judges willing to ignore the law for the sake of the party.

Playing by the rules no longer works, and being right does not change a thing this go around. Unless Cruz starts saying he plans to eliminate the Democrat party, he continues to sadly be just another brilliant but timid speaker.

The next president needs to be a leader in the impending civil war, and while Trump isn’t it, he’s FAR more likely to side with the coming conservative tide than Cruz is.

          • Deplorable Jesse-Messy Hammer

…Wow, can people actually SEE your IQ falling out of your head? What on earth gave you the idea that I don’t know about modern SJW history? Of course I do, since I way more street-smart than you. “How do I know I’m way more street-smart than you”, you’re about to ask, hmm? First things first: I asked (in my last comment) how the he11 you get the idea that CRUZ sides with the SJW’s.
…See the diff, kid? NOT “how do you know what the Left has done” but rather “WTF makes you think Cruz condones it.
…What kind of a nutjob attacks Cruz’s credibility by saying (your saying) “Unless Cruz says he plans to eliminate the Democrat party he (is timid)”? AYFKM? America doesn’t need Cruz to suspend the 1st Amendment to defeat the Dems…he just needs linkheads like you to stop lying like a Trumpeter about him.

Yikes. This is stuff that he is KNOWN to have said, this is the stuff the Dems are sitting by silently and waiting to hit him with AFTER he is the nominee. Think about what they did to Romney over that ‘binders of women’ thing.

      • Karla1953

Oh these are not made up…………………they are his words. Like I said if he ever got the nod(Oy)he seems so arrogant that he thinks he will not get hit. He will wish for the “meanness” of Fox then IMO

        • vetgal1970

He’s been out and about for a very long time, decades of scandal and boorish behavior. I’ve noted from the beginning of his campaign the radio silence from the left. Even after Megyn brought up Rosie and how he would address it when it became an issue if he’s the nominee, *crickets* from them. When have they EVER missed a chance to poke? That was a question I had been thinking about from the start. How is he planning to beat the machine because the left media may be courting him NOW but the worm will turn once he’s the R

Well, I am praying that Trump ,is the political equivalent of Kim Kardashian, people infatuated with a spray tanned ass. Tomatoes in Iowa, should be mealy rocks and buying one is a crimes against humanity. I would not throw a tomato, at Trump but I would laugh, if he got nailed. I would laugh at the fool who gets thrashed for throwing it.

Actually, I would make a deal with a friend to throw a tomato and have a beat down and sue Trump. I believe he is a man who could respect that choice. I am a girl and have a way better arm than Obama. This might be a way to separate the “men from the boys”. F#@&^ you SJW.

  • JenniferP

Self-defense…not exactly. Defending someone else from the object being thrown…pretty good defense. I like it. I thought we were supposed to be anti-bully these days. Not much that is more anti-bully than knocking the bully down as he throws a punch, now, is there?

    • PNWShan

I see your point, but “if you see someone about to throw something, stop them” is different from “knock the crap out of them”.

  • http://wandererswaysite.wordpress.com Wanderer

Technically you are allowed to use reasonable physical force in the defense of others if you witness someone preparing to commit an imminent battery. So from a strictly legal standpoint, clotheslining someone who was winding up to pitch an object of unknown material–could be a tomato, could be a cherrybomb for all you can tell–at Donald Trump would be perfectly legal.

“Knocking the crap” out of them would probably be a little more questionable.

  • PNWShan

In the future where Trump is President, some brave protesters hold up signs at an even Trump is attending: “Eminent domain took my house”, “Trumpcare killed my dad” etc.
Trump to his ever faithful followers: “They’re making the street look bad. Beat the crap out of ’em. I’ll give you pardons.”

  • bobbyt1964

He IS NOT calling for violence. He’s the next POTUS talking about a response to an attack upon his person. Let’s see a protester pelt Oidiot with a tomato and see how many 250-pound SS agents dogpile on him swinging guns and tasers.

  • Sterling Ericsson

Saying that he would pay for any legal fees, meaning assault charges, shows that he was indeed advocating violence and illegal activity.

    • Zach Smith

      No it doesn’t.

  • richard40

To me it depends on what the protesters are doing. If they are just standing, with a sign, or just say a sentence or 2, leave them alone, free speech. But if they start heckling so nobody else can hear, or do anything physical, then they forfeit their free speech right, and drive them out.

    • tifosies

He called for assault of a person who draws their hand back, aimed at Trump, with a tomato in it.
He knows it opens that supporter up to assault charges.

      • richard40

OK, in that case I support Trump for once. Throwing tomatoes counts as something physical, so the criteria in my original comment stands. If I was at a Cruz rally, I would have heaved the tomato thrower out as well.
