Or maybe not so much:

Whoa.

Seriously.

Here’s the video (relevant portion starts around the 46:20 mark):

Transcript:

Our Wounded Warriors, instead of losing their legs, their arms, worse … they’re OK. They go for a little ride upward, and they come down.”

Needless to say, Trump’s remarks aren’t going over terribly well.

I went on a little ride on a roller coaster and was lucky enough to keep my limbs. He needs to run some of his comments past some of his smarter staff.

    • Deplorable Jesse-Messy Hammer

What else should we expect from a guy who said at the 1st debate that he used to be “pro-choice just like Reagan until the Democrat-party left (him) too” (which is colossally ignorant since Reagan-I’m-sure was Never pro-abort & in any case left the Dem-party 11 years before Roe/v/Wade)?

    • ricoliv

He would first have to find a staff member who is “smarter.”.

      • Are you sure?

You are not smart that is for sure.

  • Maxx

Trump uses vets like Democrats use Blacks.

I’m encouraged that so many of my fellow veterans are starting to see this man for who is truly is. A Park Avenue panderer with a history of student deferments.

    • algonquinmatt

Trump loves this country.. Democrats, not so much.

      • Maxx

The guy who serves hot dogs outside of Home Depot loves his country….that doesn’t qualify him to be President.

        • algonquinmatt

I’m not a Trump fan, but i would rather he be given a shot to straighten things out vs. Hillary or Bernie.

          • tops116 ✓Quipper

Trump, Hillary, Bernie–all three are lifelong liberals not fit to be president.

          • Christa Siobhan Cartwright

Damning him with faint praise? Yeah that’s the only praise I could possibly muster for him.

that the Left HATES America certainly disqualifies them.

        • Karla1953

But they usually make some great hot dogs and they pull me in every time :-)Trump not so much

        • Glorious_Cause

          Trump is finished.

I disagree. The guy that serves hot-dogs out front of Home Depot is probably more qualified.

        Trump loves Trump

      • kd

That is a lazy statement, I despise Obama and Hillary. I am a Republican and Navy baby/sister (my husband was DQ for a 40% hearing loss, both his brothers were military) I have a son that I begged not to sign up until after the election, he is a sophmore in college.

Individuals love this country, not political parties, there are lots of Democrats who love this country. Trump may be one of them. God knows he loves what this country has provided for him, I believe he does love America, not enough to serve, or have his children serve but he will take a tax write off for a veteran’s parade….provided he is Grand Marshall.

    • NannoH

You couldn’t be more wrong if you tried. Veterans, the military, union members and lots of Democrats are all jumping on the Trump bandwagon.

      • Maxx

        Veterans ARE the military.

In addition, of course Democrats and unions would support one of their own.

        • NannoH

They are not active military. Not the same thing.

          • Maxx

Us vets don’t consider ourselves separate from the military. All who are discharged become vets but many continue in a reserve status. In addition, not all veterans are retired. They can be discharged long before retirement, which I see you’ve now deleted from your comment above.

          • NannoH

Oh I think you are wrong again. My father and father-in-law both served in World War II. They never considered themselves part of active military. I attend American Legion events frequently and not one veteran has ever expressed that he/she is part of current military. Since you consider yourself part of current military. I hope you are ready to be called for a deployment whenever asked.

          • tops116 ✓Quipper

Hmm, who am I gonna believe in this argument: the guy who actually served or a Trump supporter who routinely moves the goalposts and can’t back up a single thing he says? Yeah, that’s a tough one all right.

          • Maxx

Read your initial comment. You did not state “active military.” You wrote “military” and those who are in a reserve status not active are still very much “military,” as evidenced by their numbers, which are instrumental when evaluating force readiness.

          • Mark81150 school of the Duke

I don’t believe the Trumpet knows.. or understands if he does what “inactive reserves” are..
            .
I haven’t been active duty since 1982.. but.. after serving, would have been on the inactive reserve roster for another two years.. if I hadn’t been disqualified from active duty and given a medical Honorable Discharge for a massive hearing loss in a stupid training accident..

          • ricoliv

Apparently, it has not occurred to you that your father and your father-in-law, along with their cronies in the local chapter of the American Legion, may not be typical of vets across the country. Or maybe, like the majority of sensible people worldwide, they do not feel the need to declare the obvious when it is … well … so obvious.

          • algonquinmatt

Many vets like Trump. Just because you disagree, you have to refer to them as cronies or imply they arent sensible?

          • NannoH

Sadly, my dad and father-in-law passed away and are not with us any longer. I am not in the state where any of “their cronies” live but the Legion where I attend events is filled with wonderful men and women and your covert trashing of them is horrendous.

          • Mark81150 school of the Duke

you do understand his remarks are directed at Trump supporters.. not vets in general..
            .
and their is a huge difference between WW II vets.. and vets that served after the draft ended… almost all vets were then representative of the general public and overwhelmingly democrats.. die hard democrats.. so that any surviving WW II er vets like Trump is no shock.. him being a democrat proudly.. till about 5 minutes ago.. he still supports their agenda…
            .
Vets after the draft ended.. being all volunteers rather than draftees,.. come more from the conservative family’s in the US.. ask any hardcore lefty you know, how many servicemen.. women they know.. the numbers are shocking..
            .
liberals and progressives are barely represented at all.. conservative minded democrats sure.. but not liberals very much…

          • kd

Just to clarify, I called my dad. He is on retainer, not retired. Theoretically he can be called back up, even though he is 75 (never gonna happen)

He left for his first tour Nov 1, 1966, did Desert Storm and “retired”. He started a business but when the Navy called he was over in Europe for Bosnia Herzegovina. He finished up at Centcom.

Don’t forget the Ready Reserve, which is made up of non-active duty members of the U.S. military.

          • vetgal1970

At this point in my life, I have been out longer than I was in but have never forgotten the Oath I took. There’s a thread that binds and to me it is continual. Am I ‘active duty’? Of course not but I consider the active troops now the same way I considered the people next to me when I was.

          • Mark81150 school of the Duke

yep… me too…. once in.. your heart never leaves the ranks…

          • kd

Thank you Maxx, my father actually had retired after Desert Storm and was asked to come back for Bosnia, which he did. He would leave tomorrow if they needed him. (He is not waiting by the phone, it is just a sense of duty that never goes away)

Adhere to the Constitution. nominates judges for SCOTUS, Commander in Chief, and so help he gravitas. I never want to know about my president’s underwear, sex life, and theoretical children. I never want the White House to host an Oscar nomination party, a first lady on MTV. Holy crap Kim and Kanye are not American Royalty and Trump is not presidential.

Please spend some time and do some original source research, Trump is a clown. He is beholden to so many “smart” billionaires.

    • CarolinaGirl3

I’m curious – just how much money did Trump donate to Veterans organizations BEFORE this candidacy? I don’t count the money the participants on “Celebrity Apprentice” raised for them (I know Piers Morgan donated his winnings to Wounded Warrior Project) – what checks did HE send?

      • Maxx

“Tax forms examined by The Daily Beast show that in 2009, the Donald J. Trump Foundation gave a whopping $100,000 to the Clinton Foundation (then called the William J. Clinton Foundation). The following year, Trump’s foundation, a registered 501(c) group, gave another $10,000 to the Clinton Foundation.

Over a five-year span, from 2009 to 2013, the foundation gave just $57,000 to veterans groups, according to an estimate Forbes made last December.”

So essentially, prior to his campaign, Donald Trump donated more to the Clintons than he did to veterans.

        http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2016/01/28/does-trump-like-hillary-more-than-vets.html

“The Smoking Gun has documented Trump’s overall miserly giving for years. In 1999, the website called Trump “The .00013% Man,” referring to the percentage of his wealth that the foundation had donated.”
        http://www.weeklystandard.com/for-years-trumps-charity-gave-veterans-little-more-than-peanuts/article/2000776

        • ricoliv

(Possible) Trump: “Those pesky Clintons promised me the money would go to Wounded Warriors. Blame THEM, not me. And I fired the losers in my own foundation who didn’t send the money where I might have been thinking about sending it. No matter how you look at it, I did the right thing!”

        • Northpaw

Looks like he gave a lot to the Clinton Crime Family whose head Bill Clinton once wore the uniform of the State of Arkansas Commander-in-Chief not to mention as a young man he kept him out of war. Trump don’t forget was in a military academy as a kid so you see he’s been there, he’s fought the good fight and feels the wounded warriors pain.

but an IED?.. no big deal.. cause armor?
            .
when in 71.. my uncle lost his tank crew in Vietnam to an RPG hit.. an explosive.. and they had much thicker armor than a Humvee does… so his wounds.. his dead crew/friends/squadmates…. did they just get a little ride up to?
            .
only if you consider them going to meet the Lord a “little ride up”…

        .
just trying to decompress.. have a couple of beers…
        .
when a tiny group of High School ROTC cadets strolled by.. high school…..
        .
and the cadet leader.. his fatigues out of regs.. mismatched uniform pieces.. stops.. comes over to bitch at us.. because we were laughing and joking with each other.. and ignoring HIM.. his ROTC cadet officer diamonds all shiney and stuff.. we didn’t salute him.. and snap too…
        .
to the credit of my squad.. nobody did or said anything TOO rude.. a lot of cheesy grins as we pondered this greater creature standing before us…. and somebody quietly reminded junior..
        .
he was not actually a regular.. not IN the military at all yet..
        .
about then his junior NCO escort found them after they’d wandered off..
        .
the ass chewing was one for the record books.. so elegant in it’s blue tone..
        .
it brought a tear to my eye… (sniff)…….
        .
that is what I think about Trumps “military” background…. thanks for reminding us about that..

Trump is a New Yorker. This is how they talk. Get real. He loves and respects veterans and the military.

    • Adam Wood

He loves and respects them so much that he has spent the last thirty years or so petitioning the city of New York to kick them off of his sidewalk.

      • NannoH

Prove your accusation with a few reputable links or you are just rambling.

        • Maxx

          It took me ten seconds.

          http://www.msnbc.com/msnbc/trumps-history-veterans-gets-renewed-scrutiny

“Meanwhile, The New York Daily News has reportedly unearthed a letter Trump wrote in 1991, imploring the then-chairman of the New York State Assembly’s Committee on Cities, John Dearie, to crack down on disabled veterans working as vendors along Fifth Ave in Manhattan.

“While disabled veterans should be given every opportunity to earn a living, is it fair to do so to the detriment of the city as a whole or its tax paying citizens and businesses?” Trump allegedly wrote. “Do we allow Fifth Ave., one of the world’s finest and most luxurious shopping districts, to be turned into an outdoor flea market, clogging and seriously downgrading the area?”

According the Daily News, Trump spoke out critically about veterans again in 2004 when Michael Bloomberg, possibly a soon-to-be presidential candidate Michael Bloomberg, was mayor of New York City. In a letter to Bloomberg, Trump allegedly accused street peddlers of posing as vets outside of his luxurious Trump Tower, according to the Daily News”

You sound like a liberal to me.

    • Med1

I am a Female Army Veteran who takes ZERO offense to this! The bottom line is that he wants to fix the problem. If Mr. Trump’s words offended someone, they are NOT likely to be a Veteran and most likely believe that there is an actual war on women. They need to grow a thicker skin and grow up!

      • http://www.almarquardt.com/ almarquardt

You might want to read the comments by other veterans before making such a blanket statement.

      • Maxx

I’m offended by his statement and I served for four Commanders in Chief through three decades. Plenty of my other fellow veterans also are offended by his flippant comment, awash in ignorance. If he thinks all that occurs from an IED is a “little ride,” might I suggest he strap himself in and go for one.

        • Penny✓ItsSoFluffy! #GoBolts!

He would hide behind Megyn Kelly before he would ever do that.

          • tops116 ✓Quipper

But, Penny, “He fights!” His supporters said so. They wouldn’t lie to you, would they?

Incidentally, I can totally believe that at the first sign of trouble, Trump would hide behind the nearest warm body he could find.

          • Penny✓ItsSoFluffy! #GoBolts!

He talks tough but.. yeah, that’s all he’s got.

        • Med1

I too have served four CINC’s. I am also the one who cared for my brethren immediately after they went on a “little ride”.
Not for a second do I think Mr. Trump believes it’s a “little ride”. He is intelligent enough to know precisely what happens. It is quite common not to discuss difficult topics in graphic detail. Example- I am highly capable of telling someone, in explicit detail, of what will happen to their body under anesthesia. Instead I choose to tell them that they will be taking “a little nap”. I fail to see the difference between that and Mr. Trump’s comment.
Perhaps the military hardened me too much? Perhaps you’ve gone soft? I don’t know. But I do know that it takes far more than “a little ride” to have me believe he isn’t pro-veteran.

          • Maxx

He’s “pro veteran” in a pandering sense. Take a look at how much the $3B man had given to veterans causes BEFORE he filed his candidacy.

Trump cares about veterans because he knows they are a significant voting block. Where was all of this concern in 2009 when he gave the Clinton Foundation $100,000 and yet from 2009-2013, his foundation gave less than $60,000 to veterans.

How do you square an alleged $10B worth with a $60,000 check?

          • Med1

Proportionate to my salary, I donate a lot. The majority of my donations are NOT towards “veterans organizations”. Am I any less patriotic? Absolutely not! You can not judge ones patriotism or military allegiance strictly by their donations.

Incidentally, there are NUMEROUS organizations that are not easily identified or classified as a “veterans organizations”. Yet they are priceless in their service to the military and its veterans. The American Red Cross is one of the best examples. Just because one doesn’t donate to The Wounded Warrior Project, AMVETS or Purple Heart does not mean ones donations aren’t going towards Veterans.

      • Fire and Adjust!

I’m a Male Army Veteran who takes zero offense to this since I recognize the source of the comment………Who am I to get mad over a horse’s ass spewing horse shit when that is exactly what they naturally do?

      • tops116 ✓Quipper

“If Mr. Trump’s words offended you are probably NOT a Veteran”

And if actual veterans are complaining, do they count? Probably not since you’re a Trump supporter and Trump supporters are notoriously incapable of grappling with dissenting viewpoints.

“Grow a thicker skin and grow up people!!!”

You might wanna suggest that to the guy who was too scared to face Megyn Kelly and who made a vastly uninformed opinion on armored vehicles.

      • ricoliv

I guess we’ll just to take your word for the Veteran part, since nothing else you say sounds convincing– especially the weird part in which NOT being a veteran is conflated with believing that there is a war on women. I guess all those trainees who reported a series of rapes at the Air Force Academy (1) never became veterans*, (2) did not consider rape a warlike attack, (3) were making up the whole thing, or (4) were not really women after all.

*One of the chief investigators was a senior female officer, and a veteran, whose only daughter had been raped while in training and who, herself, had seen evidence of the practice but had been repeatedly ignored when she attempted to report it. There’s No reason to suspect a war on women in any of that, right?

        • Med1

You are more than welcome to ask me questions as an ADSM(Active Duty Service Member). My time in service is something that I am not only quite proud of, but it’s something I’d never joke around with.
Concerning a “War on Women”, we will have to agree to disagree. Having read the IG report on USAFA complaints, I’m quite familiar. But it doesn’t amount to a “war on women”.
To think that there’s a war on women is akin to believing that I walk around in a perpetual state of victimization! And that is simply preposterous. I have had a successful career in the Army and in Medicine. I am a happy wife and a loving mother. Do I really sound like someone who a war has been waged on??? Hell no! Ricoliv, better than most I know the precise definition of war, and this is NOT it.

No, NYer’s with brains don’t talk that way. I’m a life-long NYer, so I know. You obviously know nothing at all about NY – you just believe Trump.

Trump exploits the military for his campaign (his ‘veterans benefit’ last week, that just happened to be at the same time as the debates) , dissed McCain’s service and now he trivializes their danger and risk.

So he’s said and done plenty to show that he has no idea what the military is about and has no problem taking advantage of them.

Trump says he loves the military? Maybe, maybe not. Who cares? He says whatever works for Donald Trump at the moment. He’s a liar, a phony and a low-life.

One thing that Donald Trump has done is get a dialogue going among people who consider themselves to be conservatives. We may disagree on Donald Trump or who would be the most effective POTUS, but the majority of us are pissed off at the GOP.

    • wrestlefan01

im pissed as well..but i do have enough sense to know that we need someone sane and not some loose cannon who is a plant by the dems to make sure hilary wins.

      • algonquinmatt

I disagree with the premise that Trump as the nominee guarantees a Hillary win.

        • wrestlefan01

i beg to differ that leftist media that loves him so much now is going to unleash when he gets the nom

          • algonquinmatt

that’s definitely one school of thought.. but seeing how Trump has handled the leftwing media up to this point, and seeing how their attempts to bash him have backfired, he may be the Teflon Don.

          • tops116 ✓Quipper

“seeing how Trump has handled the leftwing media up to this point”

Whining from your safe space isn’t handling them; it’s being brazenly pathetic.

“seeing how their attempts to bash him have backfired”

How did they backfire? What, because delusional Trump supporters continue to stand by him? Hell, Trump himself said his supporters are so in the tank for him that he could commit a shooting spree and they wouldn’t care. Any criticism from the leftwing media is not a litmus test for Trump’s invulnerability; to say otherwise is brazenly idiotic.

What Trump supporters fail to grasp is that he’s only at 35%. That makes him leader in a fractured field, but it also shows that the vast majority of the party isn’t in favor of him and would be reluctant to support him. He has massive unfavorable ratings (due not to media attacks, but because of what a jackass he’s been for decades) and 100% name recognition. He’d get his ass kicked in the general and no amount of whining on his part could change that.

          • Petrucio14

Is it so hard to believe that they are going soft on him until the nomination only to blast out their venom after? Those who fail to study history …

          • ricoliv

Define “loves.” The leftist media (no argument there) ALWAYS “loves” the Republican front-runner– until he becomes the nominee. Then it becomes ” Fire all cannons and take no prisoners!” Remember how quickly their “grand amour” for “heroic” John McCain morphed into loathing? Similarly, even among their own team, the taste for plain-vanilla Hillary subsided once vanilla-fudge Obama came long.

In Trump’s case, the love is two-fold: (1) In his clownishness, he makes good copy; (2) Despite his off-the-charts unfavorable ratings, he poses less of a threat to the equally hideous Hillary, since she can claim the ground-breaking mantle of being The First Female President America Has Ever Elected– Praise Be Unto Its Infinite Wisdom!

There’s gold in them thar’ progressive stalking points, par’dner.

Pissed off at the “EGOP” the establishment GOP.

      • algonquinmatt

the whole lot of them, besides guys like Cruz, who stood up to everybody.

      • ricoliv

And being pissed off is guaranteed to give you a bucket load of piss, if nothing else.

        • http://archive.boston.com/news/globe/ideas/articles/2007/08/05/the_downside_of_diversity/?page=full Trump winning – Bullet2354

Better to be be pissed off then pissed on.

    • grais

And we’ve been pissed at the GOP, and talking about it since way before Thedonald showed up screaming.

    • Maxx

If you hire a roofer to fix your leak and he does a poor job, you don’t replace him with a casino owner. You hire a new roofer.

We don’t have to tear apart our party to change things. We just have to hire a better conservative.

  • Fire and Adjust!

Having experienced IEDs in person I can say with a certain amount of informed opinion that Donald Trump’s understanding of IEDs is equivalent to Barrack Obama’s understanding of the Constitution, Hillary Clinton’s understanding of integrity, and most democrats’ understanding of reality………..

  • http://archive.boston.com/news/globe/ideas/articles/2007/08/05/the_downside_of_diversity/?page=full Trump winning – Bullet2354

Quick – take it out of context.

    • tops116 ✓Quipper

Don’t have to. The entire speech is right up there.

  • grais

Hey, c’mon. He went to military school. He wore a uniform, fcol. He had *dealings* with draft boards. Don’t act like he doesn’t know about that Army and Navy stuff & junk.

I’ll have to ask all my buddies who are missing limbs, eyes, genitalia, etc., how was your “little ride”?

  • Nos Nevets

    Demo please, Mr. Trump?
I’ll bet you can find some vets who’d set you up.

  • tops116 ✓Quipper

Trump said something stupid and his supporters ate it up while denouncing those who dissent. It must be a day ending in Y.

So, did Trump get all his info about IEDs from Brian Williams?

    • Penny✓ItsSoFluffy! #GoBolts!

Yep, right after they killed Osama bin Laden with their bare hands.

  • JosephBloughs ✓Viagrafied

Sorry Trump supporters, but he’s not qualified if he believes that. But go ahead, justify anyway…

  • The Dragon

Alright Trump supporters, how long can you keep defending him? This is the same guy who openly mocked you by saying he could murder someone in the middle of a busy street and not lose any supporters. He knows he has a cult following exactly like Obama does. He knows it, and he flaunts it.

    • http://www.almarquardt.com/ almarquardt

The fact that Trump supporters sound exactly like rabid liberals when defending him is quite telling, and not in a good way.

      • algonquinmatt

I was thinking the exact same thing about the people bashing Trump supporters.. Which im not, but im not a hater, either.

  • James Balthis

maybe someone will let him go for a “joy ride” in one of those armored vehicles over an ied just to get the feel of it ‘going up and down’

  • rich614

Is there any way we can give him the experience of the ‘little ride’?

  • kd

McCain had a parachute, it was like rocking a baby. I do not care how people feel about McCain’s politics, he deserves respect for his service. The bad shocks on Trump’s car, driving to military school is the same as driving over an IED in Trump World.

  • tamanator

Unfortunately millions of dumb vets are helping this asshole go for a “little ride” to the WH.

It doesn’t matter. Trump has the one and only qualification to be President these days – he is a CELEBRITY. Just like the overnight American Idol sensation in 2008, this is the only qualification the majority of American voters seem to be interested in. This country is toast.

    • https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lS8RjCRolSM Sanchez Crazy as a Loon

If Squirrel-Hair Boy’s father had been a manager of a Denny’s, SHB would by now have risen to assistant manager.
When are you trumpbots going to figure this loud-mouffed BUFFOON out?

  • ricoliv

That is just one more remark that the Trumpsters will insist has been taken out of context and therefore has no significance. Tomorrow Trump will deny he ever said it, that it was actually Cruz who did, and his supporters will point to all the corroborating evidence.

In Trumpville, the Donald could mow down a passel of voters with an AK-47 and the survivors would still rise up and cast their ballots for him. After all, that would just be further proof of His Magnificence’s disregard for the conventions of polite society.

  • http://aztommycat.wordpress.com/ Tommycat

Please Iowa Republicans… Just don’t vote for him… I mean seriously… ANY OTHER REPUBLICAN!!! Even Bush… I know.. but ANYONE! If you don’t want to vote for a politician, vote for Carson or Fiorina.

and of course I’ll draw the hate of the Trump Bots.

  • Ms.rainman

Ungrateful vets. Didn’t Trump just get a bunch of other people to donate money to you guys? You want him to make sense too?

  • Jill

Our neighbors son was torn in half in Iraq while riding in an armored vehicle. Up and down ride? Err. no. His ‘little ride’ caused far more pain and loss than your typical kiddie ride at Disney.

  • Oldtex

My conclusion is that Trump had in mind the war wagons like the government has been giving out to police departments. Even a full grown tank can be taken out. There just needs to be a heavy enough charge.

  • Dan Abbett

What is really disgusting about all this is that Trump stands a good chance of, at a minimum, winning the GOP nomination. This is the arrogant, ignorant, clueless mentality that is loyally and belligerently defended by Trump’s equally ignorant supporters.

This is all a game to Trump; he has no real intention of actually performing the responsibilities of the Office of the President of the United States. It’s a lark, a whim and a job he will fail at as bad or worse than the current narcissistic Ego in Chief currently in the White House.

I always blamed Washington for the complete mess we face as a nation. Maybe Washington is right, a majority of the American people are actually as stupid as they think they are.

    • jumper297

As much as I wish it wasn’t so, your comment is pretty spot on.

Having loss a couple of brothers to IEDs, It is not either a joking matter or a political meme for anyone (either for or against Mr. Trump) to use or sway folks, As some of us know, there was a reason for Haji Armor.

  • divingpetrel

I wonder just how much work for the vets Trump did before it was suddenly politically expedient for him to do so.

  • honestAbesurd

CLINTON,GORE,BUSH,CHENEY,BIDEN have helped tank this country over the last 26 years. All have something in common with Trump. ALL were draft dodgers. We need a real leader not cowards.

    • Laticia

Bush was not a draft dodger, he served as a pilot in the Air National Guard in Texas. Would you like to explain to my husband who served in the national guard and the army reserves here in Maryland that he was just trying to avoid military service (both he and I are too young to be affected by the draft)?

  • interestedobserver2
