That’s an excellent point.

As The Atlantic’s Ta-Nehisi Coates listened to CIA Director John Brennan’s press conference about the Senate Democrats’ torture report, one thought kept occurring to him again and again: America is a shameful, horrible place.

Al Qaeda’s bad and all, but they’re nothing compared to us:

(Note: He’s not talking about Robert Byrd, the KKK Exalted Cyclops who became the longest-serving U.S. Senator — as a Democrat.)

You know, Mr. Coates, it is possible to acknowledge our country’s past without comparing us to jihadists hell-bent on destroying not just us, but men, women, and children all over the world.
