Dr. Phil raised a few eyebrows today with this tweet:
The most powerful role model in a child’s life is the same-sex parent. #DrPhil
— Dr. Phil (@DrPhil) December 17, 2013
Some of his followers didn’t quite understand what he was getting at:
@DrPhil Why won't people get it through their thick heads that marriage is between a man and a woman?

@DrPhil Children need a mother & a father So u are saying u would've been a better parent if u were with a guy or your wife was with a woman

@DrPhil RE:Child's same sex role model. If parents are homosexuals, how does kid know which is mom or dad?

Sigh.
@DrPhil oh had to read twice! Thought you meant same sex partners!!!!!!! Gish

Yep. Reading is fundamental, kids. Though Dr. Phil could’ve worded it better, it’s pretty clear he was saying that a son’s most powerful role model is his father, and a daughter’s is her mother. Which, of course, is the subject of another debate altogether.
