President Obama briefly took to the podium this afternoon to talk about how awesome it is that the Senate will be able to limit filibusters of executive and judicial nominees with a simple majority of 51.
President Obama: “If you’ve got a majority of folks who believe in something, then it should be able to pass.” #Filibuster #JustVote

The Founding Fathers would be appalled. They envisioned the United States as a constitutional republic. Our constitution was written to ensure that citizens are not at the mercy of the tyranny of the majority.
@WhiteHouse Is the point of the filibuster to empower the minority–to act as a check? Or is that unnecessary when Dems are in the majority?

If we're going to have two houses of congress that function in exactly the same way then why even have two?

Without the filibuster what reason is there for the majority party to ever work with the minority? Look at the House if you don't believe me

There's practically no reason for the minority party to even bother showing up in the house or in a filibusterless Senate

@AaronWorthing @uncommentari @WhiteHouse I guess Madison's feelings about the tyranny of the majority are just so passé

Of course, it’s important to keep in mind that President Obama has no intention of heeding the majority’s will if it’s inconvenient for him:
