Reality is hard for Jay Carney. During today’s briefing, the press secretary grew increasingly flustered over questions about the IRS targeting conservative groups.
Carney says Pres Obama stands by yesterday's comments that IRS targeting "outrageous" and has "no tolerance" for such action.
— Mark Knoller (@markknoller) May 14, 2013
But until Inspector General report released, Carney says WH not willing to jump to conclusions about IRS misconduct.
— Mark Knoller (@markknoller) May 14, 2013
Carney says Pres "concerned by every report he sees" on the IRS misconduct, but he awaits Inspector General report before taking action.
— Mark Knoller (@markknoller) May 14, 2013
Yeah. Very concerned. Ever since this past Friday, when President Obama learned about it “from news.”
Carney says Pres unwilling to act just based on reports of IRS misconduct. Insists on waiting for independent Inspector General report.
— Mark Knoller (@markknoller) May 14, 2013
Carney says "if" resports of IRS misconduct are true, then officials "should be held accountable." WH wants I.G. report to be completed.
— Mark Knoller (@markknoller) May 14, 2013
Despite the fact that the IRS admitted to deliberately targeting tax-exempt conservative organizations, Carney insists that the president can’t comment on the story, because the White House doesn’t know if the reports are true.
Really, Jay?
The IRS admitted wrongdoing & Carney is still saying "if it's true"
— Heather Marie (@hfearny) May 14, 2013
If the reporting is true? WTF?
— Gary Eaton (@garysteveneaton) May 14, 2013
If it’s true? THE IRS ADMITTED & APOLOGIZED FOR THESE MISDEEDS!
— ?? (@ShannonPoe) May 14, 2013
Carney: "No tolerance" for #IRS scandal…*if true.* IRS has already admitted & apologized for wrongdoing.

? "If it in fact took place," says Carney.
— Dana Loesch (@DLoesch) May 14, 2013
Someone tell Jay Carney the IRS admitted to the conspiracy. It's not a matter of "if" anymore.
— Sunny McSunnyface (@sunnyright) May 14, 2013
Carney: We don't know if there was inappropriate behavior from the #IRS "or not." What? IRS apologized & called own conduct inappropriate!

Unusual, isn't it that the White House is pretending the IRS allegations haven't already been confirmed and apologized for by IRS?
— Gabriel Malor (@gabrielmalor) May 14, 2013
The president can’t comment on what we know so far?
Again, the IRS *admitted* improper behavior. We can go ahead & condemn for admissions, then wait for more info. Not mutually exclusive.
— Mary Katharine Ham (@mkhammer) May 14, 2013
So what does the president need to see beyond the IRS' already-public confession of wrongdoing?
— Jim Geraghty (@jimgeraghty) May 14, 2013
What’s it going to take?
What more do we need to know, America? The Obama administration refuses to comment on something the IRS has ALREADY ADMITTED. #liars

Citizens aren’t buying Carney’s bunk:
"IF it turns out to be true" re the IRS. Come on!
— David Freddoso (@freddoso) May 14, 2013
Dear @PressSec, your White House Counsel knew. You may want to ask him about it: http://t.co/VGqnSxXdPb #IRS
— Phineas Fahrquar (@irishspy) May 14, 2013
Jay Carney: "There should be consequences" IF IRS targeted conservative groups. #lyingliars
— Michelle Malkin (@michellemalkin) May 14, 2013
What a joke.
If something outrageous actually happened then the president's conditional outrage will become non-conditional outrage — if necessary.
— Jonah Goldberg (@JonahDispatch) May 14, 2013
If it proves true I am lying, it will be true that those who said I was lying were not lying when they said I was untruthful. Again, if.
— Jonah Goldberg (@JonahDispatch) May 14, 2013
If Jay Carney is competent, we’re the Queen of Sheba. If.

Carney is an absolute train wreck.
