Yglesias wasn’t just tweeting squares as we had originally thought. Here’s what his tweet looks like on iPhones and in certain browsers, such as Safari:
The little symbols, or emojis, represent the currencies of Japan, the U.S., and the UK, respectively, as well as a credit card.
Yglesias has been tweeting a good bit about Bitcoins, a digital currency, today. Perhaps he was making a comment on that.
