The boxer was eliminated from competition last Thursday after losing to India’s mononymous Vijender:
“I had the weight of USA on my back, and I just wanted to lift them up,” Gausha said. “I can take pressure really good.”
He can also take defeat, with the 24-year-old expressing no bitterness, anger or anguish over the end of his Olympics. “I gave it everything. I did everything they told me to do. I think it was working for me,” he said.
“Unfortunately I didn’t get the decision, but it’s nothing to hold my head down about. I don’t feel bad because I know I did everything I could and the world was watching.”
But don’t fret: While Gausha’s Olympic journey has come to an end, his inspirational ability to inspire will live on.
